With all the trouble I'm getting with my current line regarding broadband (BT reckon I can only get 1 Mb max even though I'm only 2 km from the exchange) I'm considering getting a new line put in. Is it worth it? Am I just going to be given the same crappy line as I've got now or will it be better?

Luck of the draw really.

However, the last leg of the line will almost certainly be the same bit of wire as you have now. Your phone line has two copper pairs...a new line would just use the unused one.

I realise that. BT did a line check yesterday and told me I was 3.6 km from the exchange (2 km as the crow flies) but they said I would be lucky to get between 1 & 3 Mb download speeds.

Be ISP say I am 13 km from the exchange and insist that BT is wrong. Just not getting anywhere at the moment and it's very frustrating!

all depends on a lot of things, especially the quality of line from your local BT box to your house - i mean, i'm around 3-4km from the hub and i get around 2mb, a new house built 100m away (further along the line) with new lines going to it is getting 5.5mb

Did you see my post about ringing the BT tags line? Ring them.

Also pop on over to www.thinkbroadband.com, register on the forum and PM MrSaffron with your situation. Last time this was a major problem he sorted out someone at Be to talk to about it.
