I have a 320g Samsung (Single Platter) as my main drive with my OS on it. Now, thing is, i am only using approx 49gig of space on it a i don't play PC games etc. I hardly ever put new software on it.

Would i be better off having a smaller, faster HD and keeping the 320gig for backups? I currently use a 2.5 hard drive to back up.

Not interested in SSD drives at the mo as too expensive for me. So, any ideas?

Having a bigger hard drive and only using a small amount will be faster as hard drive will write to the faster outer edge first, so if you only use 25% of the drive, it's more or less gonna be on the fastest 25-40% part of the drive. :)

stick with the single platter 320gb drive, you won't beat its performance with an older, smaller model. They are dead cheap too.

the sammy single platter is a decent drive, pretty fast and silent, suits a o/s drive perfectly

im using 2 myself as o/s drives
