Currently i`m dual booting with 2 drives, one for internet/cd burning etc and the other for audio apps/games.
On the games one i have it `clean booted` with just essential services running and its really zippy,network/internet disabled etc.
I`m thinking of getting a 74 gb raptor and possibly dual booting it.I thought about 2 36gb raptors but for another 35 or so you get double storage.
Any thoughts guys?

If you bought two raptors you would have 4 drives. This would increase your wattage requirements on your PSU and increase the internal temperature of your case.

Why not partition one of your two drives and dual boot from that.
Use your second drive as a data drive, and maybe a partition at the start for your swap file.

If your after another drive, why not get a 200 gig+ drive and use it for backing up your other two drives?

Just my twopennies worth

He has a 580w PSU, I doubt it'll strain under the addition of 5-10watts spinup power draw, nor increase case temperatures any significant amount.

Perhaps he wants to speed up boot times.

Luminous: It all comes down to personal choice, do you want to speed up your pc? Or would storage be better? The 7200.10 Seagates are fast and large, have you considered those?

36GB raptors are almost redundant now, some modern 7200rpm hard drives exceed them in all tests bar access times.

Steer clear of 36gig raptors as they are slower than 75gig ones.

Personally on such small drives I wouldn't bother partitioning. As you already have 2 drives you will have at least 3 partitions anyway.

Cheers guys.I guess whats important is quickness for windows etc and apps/games.Thats me trying to be cheap with partitioning one 75gb raptor.
I like dual booting as i have them set up differently with the music app/game one as performance on that is priority. It would also be nice to have a quicker windows for general use tho.
So maybe the best way would be get shot of 120gb i have use 7200.10 for main xp part,2nd one 75gb raptor for gaming/audio?.
I haven`t read up on these new 7200`s are they really good?

Or raid 0 your 2x120gb drives partition it up. and get a 3rd larger drive for downloads and non essential appz

Whats all this about the 36Gb Raptor being slow and obsolete? The old 8Mb cache one might be, but the newer 16Mb Cache version is up there with the Latest version of the 74 Gb drive, and the 150Gb Raptor so its far from obsolete.
