Here's my current "main" ( o/s) drive :

Its a bit old but serves me well.

Would i notice a worthwhile speed increase if i changed to this drive , for example :

Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD322HJ)

By worthwhile ( i mean worth the hassle of transferring the OS / main drive and a seperate storage drive onto 1 new drive ).

Any pointers for an alternative drive would be appreciated - max. ~ 500gig

Thanks.

Your average transfer rate will double. If i'm remebering the model number right I used to have one of those drives (maxtor diamondmax 9, had the 8mb cache version) and I noticed a large improvent in boot/load times when I moved to a 640gb WD drive. Mind you I did upgrade from an XP2600 to a 3Ghz quad while I was at it :D

Can't remember the exact figures but when I benched this drive it was somewhere around 100mb/sec average, the F1 should have fairly similar performance.
