Do you think this is a worthy upgrade?

Current System:
ASUS A8N32-Sli Deluxe Skt 939 Mobo
AMD4600+ @ 2.7 on stock air cooler
Corsair 2GB PC3500 LL TwinX
BFG OC Geforce 7800GT 256MB

To:
Abit AW9D MAX Skt 775 <-- or go for a different 775 board or one of the newer P35 based boards?
Intel E6600 2.4Ghz
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator DHX PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
Saphire ATI X1950 XT 256 MB

I'm thinking the Conroe will be faster by default than the AMD 4600+ as it has a lot more cache, and it should overclock better. Plus the Radeon is faster than my Geforce, what do you guys think?

Looks good to me, and will certainly be a worthwhile upgrade from your current spec.

Personally, I'd go for the P35 based board, just so you've got the option to run one of the newer 1333fsb Core2's or a quad in the future.

Also, I wouldn't bother with that Dominator RAM, some normal 6400 will be fine, and I'd put the money saved either towards the board, or go for a quad core cpu from the outset.

Either way, if you want it, go for it. :)

TBH, I wouldn't bother with the Radeon - it's faster, yes, but the difference won't be spectacular. Your Geforce will get a suitable boost from the CPU upgrade alone. Assuming it's, PCI-E, of course.

If you need a new graphics card, then the 1950XTX will be a good buy. You won't lose too much by buying one come upgrading to a DX10-class card as its dirt cheap already.

ok maybe something like

Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - these aren't out yet by the looks of it so would have to wait a bit.
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 XT Extreme SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 - really not sure about the cooling solution on this card, looks like I need a case full of fans to keep this cool?

Total : £556.84 inc VAT

Looks like a nice setup, CPU should be available in about 3 weeks, if your going to oc you should also think about a cooler.

You could also go for one of the other P35 boards and add the 40-50 quid saving towards a 8800 GTS
