Ah cool, I've got a sterio that is hooked up to my PC, its got a phono to two fat ones, red n white, they go into the back of my speakers. Would they work with the 360, and link it up to my speakers?

Yes, those are the 2 cables you get on the VGA cable for the Xbox360.
AS I said before though, you'll only get stereo sound. I found the Xbox360 was the time to get myself my own personal 5.1 set-up (I only had it downstairs before). If ever it was worth it, it is for the Xbox360. I went for the z5500's myself.

second that recommendation, great with my 360 and PC if you're looking for new speakers these are ideal, and i believe there in this week only on OCUK

still in my desperation to persuade myself to fund a 360, i come back with another couple of questions (if I may):

1 - Will the 360s sound cables (whatever they are) plug into my PC sound card (XFI Music) and then allow me to have my headset plugged in to listen to sound?

2 - If thats not possible, what are the cheapset speakers around that will work with the 360 and allow me to stick my headphones into.

i thought console gaming was mean't to be simple :P

The FAQ has turned up something interesting....

"What most people generally have is a single cable for their PC speakers, and generally only have the one connection. You have a couple of options. If you have your PC on all the time when you're playing on your Xbox, then you can connect the 360 to the Line-In on your PC soundcard and play the Xbox 360 sound via your PC. "

Does this mean.... (fingers crossed)....

That if the PC is on, I can plug my 360 sound cable into the Sound Card and get sound from my headset as that is also plugged into the Sound Card??

Or am I going along the wrong lines here?

If correct I am tempted to turn my back on Sony an get the:

279 bundle from Game (Premium with Darkness & FORZA 2)
- £20 game voucher
- £25 PS2 trade in
- couple of quid I get for other games

= £220

Leaves me to add either some essential hardware i.e. play and charge kit and maybe GOW / Dead Rising as 2nd hand - in and around 300 quid for the lot :)

it is if you use a tv :p

1. I think you can you use a phono to 3.5mm jack converter and plug that into the line in of your sound card, but i could be completely wrong, probably best to wait for someone else to answer that.

Maybe worth asking in the Sound City forum about speakers? they'll probably know a hell of a lot more than me :)

Bear in mind that the Z5500's are designed for films and as such have apalling sound quality for music compared to a cheap separates stereo setup. They're very good for DVDs and not bad for games though :)
