Would a 55" look silly here (opinions)

I think it would look ok, we have a TV in the same position in the living room although its only a 47" I believe, but it looks ok so I doubt 55" will look out of place, and our 47" TV has a thick bezel. Most new TVs have ultra slim bezels.

*Nice PS3, always loved the original design on that.

I miss my phat PS3. Piano black finish. The 40GB model YLOD in 2012.

if you didn't already - getting a piece of cardboard of the right size was useful to show my folks screen size comparison

@mark43 Currys also do the Chepstow stand for £169. It's not quite the same as the JL Premium one but still looks good.

We have one for a 58" tv and it gives you a lot of space back compared to the table / shelf style stands. Plus much more flexibility in positioning. They are a good size so don't look silly with a big TV.

@mark43

Annoyingly i forgot to take a before pic of the old 47" tv on the stand. I'll try and find an old one.

Here's the new tv on the wall. The cantilever bracket is mounted on the wall next to the bay window. I'd definately recommend this way of doing it vs a normal tv stand as you can have it slightly in front of the walls rather than having to sit within the recess.

And the old 47" one for comparison

whose wall cantilever did you get .. ?
was it difficult to attach to ensure tv top is horizontal, when 2 foot extended, presumably it extends further to access shelf behind
(I assume thats protective film strips on tv)

I don't remember, think it was just one from Amazon. Wasn't overly expensive though, maybe about £30

No, there's quite a bit of movement in the bracket, but then you can tighten it up using spanners to hold it in place. Yeah it pulls out, though with the bigger tv it does make it a little trickier because of the space restriction.

Yeah, protective strips, they were stuck on quite hard. Felt i was going to break the screen pulling them off!

No worries, i also just found an old picture when we had the old tv stand before we fitted the shelves/cantilever. The stand was from a previous house so it never really fit properly and took up a lot of space into the room and left a lot of wasted space behind it.

My TV is in a similar position, though it's a radiator to the right and not a window so don't have the option to go any further that way. Had a 55" for a short time and had it sticking out on the fireplace side. Didn't look right at all. Sent it back and got a 49" that fits perfectly within the gap.

Get the 55" Oled, you won't regret it and the cantilever bracket looks a decent solution to the problem. After a couple of weeks you'll have forgotten the dilemma. ;)

If anyone is interested I went for the 55" OLED in the end. I thought I'd actually fully made up my mind to get a 49", but then the LG B7 went down to £1200 and I just couldn't resist at that price, so I got the old tape measure out one more time and went for it!

I actually think it looks okay:

It looks like the TV is trying its best to take the shape of the wall, haha.

Good purchase, the 55 LG TV is ace. And it does look OK.

Was there any reason you did not want or could not put it over the fireplace?

Thanks guys. LOL definitely just the camera making it look odd and not curved. Its actually hard to get a photo showing exactly how it looks but the stand doesn't really protrude out that far, only had to pull it out a little further than it was before. I can't really be bothered with wall mounting, the hassle of hiding the cables and not sure how long I plan to stay in this house, plus I wouldn't want it that high.

Loving the TV though, upgraded my Netflix account and checked out a few things, just stunning!

You'll be rewatching all your old films as it'll feel like a new experience on OLED. I was amazed how stunning Dirty Harry looked on it more so the dark scenes.
