Would 'AMD ATI 7970 GPU - Powercolor - Very Fast and Cool Running Card' be the right card?

What would be a fair price to pay? He wants £150.

Way to expensive for a 2nd hand 7970...even 2nd hand R9 290 can be had at around this price.

It shouldn't be more than £100 definitely.

I've been looking around recently and have noticed 7970s are quite a bit more expensive on 'that' auction site than they are on here.

I managed to pick one up for £100 though and as it's essentially an R9 280X it has a 384-bit memory bus and 3GB VRAM. Definitely top bang for buck at the moment IMO.

Yeah you shouldn't pay more than 100 for a 7950 or 7970 (the latter is marginally faster). For £150 you could get a much faster 290,but you might be pushing it with that power supply.

You could get something like that for close to £150, chances are your PSU would run it (if you don't try and overclock it). But you'd want to start saving up for a PSU with more power soon as you get it.

OcUK staff have also mentioned that they don't pay much attention to pricing on B-Grade stuff (sometimes has the exact same price as new) and that therefore people can negotiate a sale for a particular B-Grade item.

Personally I would save your money and buy new for peace of mind the extra money is worth it for the warranty

Ended up getting the aforementioned card for £125 from a dude with over 1000 feedback (100% positive).

Looking at manufacturer specs for recommended PSU wattage is a bad idea. They're usually massively overstated, especially on the AMD side. Even the 260X comes with a recommendation for a 500W PSU for example, which is absolutely absurd.



There aren't many single GPU cards that I'd have a problem running on a 450W Super Flower unit, and even fewer at £50, especially considering the OP isn't going to be overclocking his CPU either.
