Would the EU survive brexit

why look to the other side of the world for an example when there is a European country you could look to?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/06/17/the-miraculous-story-of-iceland/

The reasons I looked to Argentina rather than Iceland (and I actually said this in my posts) are because I see the Argentinian people as a closer in character and society to the Greeks than I do the Icelanders. Greece and Argentina are both societies with endemic corruption, routine abuse of personal credit, high-ish unemployment, limited development of their financial sectors. All of which is a strong contrast to Iceland.

I already said in my posts that Argentina is a more appropriate parallel to Greece that Iceland and I suspect you're ignoring this in favour of what you think is an opportunity to score a point. Argentina, even today, is suffering the fallout of its default.

I'm trying to remember when the UK manage to change or influence anything related to the EU.

Nope, drawing a complete blank.

Well the EU wanted to raise tariffs on Chinese steel for example, to stop them undercutting European steel producers. But the UK used its veto to stop it. So yes, the UK has managed to change and influence EU decisions, as any of the Tata Steel workers could tell you.

Just picking a random recent example. ;)

When was the Argentinian default? About twenty years ago? It still doesn't seem to have recovered. In fact they were trying to nationalize the assets of a Spanish company not long ago, iirc.

No the last one was in 2014. That country has been badly mismanaged though for a number a year. It's slowly starting to mend though, and capital restrictions are gradually being lifted. I was there when they allowed the peso to float freely, ending the blue dollar market overnight.

My heart sinks at the thought of our government rigging a vote. Particularly as Dodgy Dave was accusing other countries of being corrupt just a few days ago. Could he be the ultimate hypocrite?

No. As long as Blair draws breath, Cameron will only ever be able to claim World's Second Greatest Hypocrite title.

Poor Cameron. Out-Pharisee'd by New Labour!

Just had a quick look at very pro EU document (co-president Ken Clarke) and all it is is a list of things we've asked for that the EU already largely did.
Basically we're just agreeing with policies, that isn't changing them.

Where is any major policy of the EU that we've actually stopped ?

Of course it's a 'pro EU document' because you don't like what it says :p

It explicity states it's independent and takes no EU funding

As pointed above, we used our veto against the Chinese steel imports, that was a pretty major decision for our Steel inductry and you can easily look up where else we have used our veto.

And Terminal Boy said change or influence, and I have provided you with a list, it doesn't wash just saying 'waaah waaah I dont like him so I'm not going to believe anything he says'

Edit : sorry I forgot, you're one of the CT nuts aren't you? who doesn't believe anything a politician says.....unless they are Farrage or anti-EU of course

Project Fear has cranked it up to 11 this week and has only succeeded in making more people consider Brexit.

Delicious.

Strange you only seem to notice project fear from the remain campaign but not from the leave campaign?

Maybe you only want to see what you want to see eh :D

Depends how successful UK will be once they leave the EU. If they are more successful outside the union, then the EU will fail very quickly.

It is for that reason I believe, the EU will do everything in it's power to protect itself. You cannot have a member leaving the union and be more successful outside it.

Destruction of the EU / Euro would costs hundreds or billions if not trillions, so the EU will do everything for that not to happen, even if it means screwing itself short term for long term union stability
