i know its an old system so i want to put a graphics card in it to lighten the load i am thinking of a MSI GeForce GT 440 Twin Frozr 1024MB.

will it work any better than my current x800 ?

I have a similar setup to you.

I put a 4650 1Gb in to mine about 2 years ago.

I wouldnt spend more than £40 however as its not worth it.

If its not for gaming then any 1Gb card from here would be good.

Well the only games i play on it are eve-online and counter strike source occasionally, i have fallout vegas installed too and my x800 runs that on low settings so hopefully the new card will give it a boost.

i went for a nvidia card this time because eve is going to be utilising physx

In that case the GTX 440 wil be better for gaming.

P4 is a serious bottleneck however.

Saying that, I think the 5450 can game, at least as good if not slighlty better than your x800.

You can see videos of people gaming using it on you tube.

How much is this GTX 440 going to cost?

If its the one on the OCuk site at £60 its a bit expensive to be pairedwith a P4.. but...

Get the GTX 440 its what you want and it has physx.

Hmm not sure there are many AGP Nvidia cards kicking around? I still have a boxed never even opened HD 3850 AGP card I keep meaning to sell. Surprised at the new price of them! Gets 801 on that link you posted Surveyor, not bad for an AGP card.

That link is just for the motherboard?

For the record the AMD is better for gaming that the P4, if you're going to upgrade either do it with the AMD.

Ah I see it has a max of 1GB of RAM, so your P4 system would still work out better due to the amount of RAM.

If I were you I'd sell AMD system whole, sell the RAM, CPU, GPU and the motherboard off the P4, and then use that to buy a new mobo, cpu, GPU and RAM.

If you add that £60 to your sales figure you can end up with this: (give or take a small amount of £)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/viewcart.php (Not sure if that link will work?)

If not an AMD X3 450
MSI GF615M-P33 motherboard
OcUK 440 GT
Corsair Value 2GB RAM

Would be down to your ebay selling skills!
