Would you accept a new car with issues?

Last week, we picked up my wife's brand new Disco Sport. On collection, we noticed a fair few things wrong with it:
  • Swirl marks all over the paintwork
  • 3 large chips on the bonnet
  • Chip on the rear pillar
  • White marks on the passenger seat (don't disappear when wiping)
  • Body work between passenger front/rear doors doesn't line up.
Clearly this is pretty shocking for a brand new car. The deal has arranged to fix all these issues (the car is with them now) but how would you react to this? They plan to give the car a full respray, but to be honest I bought a new car, not one that needs respraying a week later. Part of me thinks I should go back and demand a completely new vehicle as this one is clearly not up to scratch.

What do you think

Honestly would depend on how they reacted, I don't see a problem with a respray or repairs but if they were narky then ask for a brand new one or go elsewhere.

Maybe ask for a full tank of gas and a discount also.
They were very apologetic and no arguments at all - my issue is that it took me <2 mins to find all these issues, why did they think it was acceptable to hand over a >£40k car in this state.

I've got a loan car (Sean Leon!) and current view is to tell them I want a brand new car, not a resprayed/fixed version. I've called JLR directly and they're getting back to me with how they will help.

Just got off the phone with the dealer. Apparently they're fixing the bonnet chips without a respray (issues are in the lacquer). For the bodywork, it's a clip that has misaligned. The way he described it was that it must have had a 'knock' at some point that put it off.

Clearly I wasn't happy with a brand new car having a 'knock' and told him I don't want it bank. I'll pop in when it's ready and discuss with him, hopefully tomorrow.

Problem with refusing the car, is we've then got another 2+ month wait for another one to be built (whether it's the same car or another). We need the car every day.

I guess I'll have to stipulate they give us a suitable courtesy car for 2 months.

I know its a pain and annoying because you just want the new car but if you're spending that much I'd 100% demand a new build or I'd look at something else like a BMW that suits your needs. Land Rover reliability, build quality, dealerships and warranty are all absolute crap.
Yep, get that - but what do we drive for the next couple of months whilst they build the car?

Have you entered into a contract yet? I'd push for a courtesy vehicle or go elsewhere.
Yep, we already VT'd our old car and signed the paperwork for this one before we could drive it away. Didn't really have much option as we needed the car.

I totally agree we need to decline the car, I just need to figure out the practicalities of a stopgap big enough for a couple of kids/pushchair etc.

You signed for it before or after you'd seen the defects?

Before

If that's the level of quality control over things you can see on a brand new car, I'd be seriously concerned about the things you can't.

My feelings exactly.

I spoke to the retailer last night and told them I want a new car. I'll be calling JLR up this morning once they open to tell them the same.

JLR were really good with my old MD when his RRS had issue on delivery and compensated financially rather than giving a new vehicle, I'd push for that angle plus the fixes required, and a written guarantee that any issue stemming from it found later down the line are fixed FOC
Good to hear! Any idea what level/kind of compensation was given?
