Would you always avoid a CAT D?

I bought an 05 plate Ford Ka for £350 was a CAT D. Ran it for a year and it was perfect. Sold it for £600 so not bad
Small little cars in a crash will get wrote off as there vauled very little to cost of repair, can get some good bargains.

It sounds like you shouldn't be considering 335s.
And that's exactly the sort of car you should be avoiding a Cat C/D on. It's still a fairly valuable model so it will have taken quite a bit of damage to write it off.

It depends on the amount of damage, on a low value car yup. The chances are the damage was very minor and future re sale isn't really an issue.

Old car, so long as the cat D is recent, yes!
Example, workmate has a cat D 2001 75k mile e39 M5, it had it's bumpers and interior stolen the rest is as it left the factory, he paid £2k for it, he's it's second owner!

The insurers inform the dvla. To get it back on the road it has to have an identity check.

Current car is a cat c. Cat D is just paintwork isn't it? If it was cheap yep, no issues.
Last motorbike was a cat d i think. It was all fixed up and when i wrote it off i got paid back a fair amount equivalent to a non cat d one.

Cat C and Cat D have no baring at all on the amount of damage.
Cat C is where the cost of repairs other costs is more then the value of the car.
Cat D is where the cost of repairs is less then the value of the car but it's cheaper for the insurer to pay out and sell the salvage.
As above, which it is why its important to have details and ideally evidence of the damage before repair.
I would have a cat d dependent on where it was hit, cat c generally no as I wouldn't be looking at something old enough for that not to be major damage.
Repaired right there should be no problem with either - problem is determining if thebrepair is right

Not nearly as tiresome as all the pro-BMW posts, or the people who want so badly to fit in with the pro-BMW party line on this sub forum they'll look at knackered ropey old or CAT D cars to do so.
