I don't even know if 'cryo sleep' is the correct term. But anyway, a good conversation I had over the weekend was regarding the matter of being frozen if you knew you would wake up. How long would you sleep for?

So, if you could safely be frozen/long term stasis, when in your life would you do so and how long for?

Me personally, would go around 50/60, once my children have established their place in the world (I imagine they would be about 20 or so), I'd personally go under for 500 years! A lot but I love the idea of waking in an age where space exploration etc is just the norm. I couldn't do something like 100 years as it would be too close to those I previously treasured.

A far fetched thought I know. But that's the point.

When would you go and how long for? And why?

Interesting thread. Parents vs non-parents will yield very different opinions I would think.

Personally, not having kids, I'd probably go for 300 years or so. Maybe then I'll have finally won that argument with the wife and be able to afford a Zonda.

Maybe :p

Lol, bad luck Brian, wake up, Zonda is now classic and is worth trillions. UL.

A cool concept, depending on what you consider -

/Get unfrozen 200 years later
/All known information and skills now irrelevant
/Can't get job
/Depressed
/Suicides

/Become leading expert on early 21st century life
/Worshiped by historians and "The Antiques Roadshow TNG" across the world
/Retire a wealthy man

There... that's more like it

I'd do it now, before any kids came along, although would prefer to be able to bring someone else with me... 500 years sounds reasonable, although you will always have the risk of waking up to some kind of post apocalyptic world far worse than you left (probably the reality considering the worsening of almost all environmental indicators). :p

The real question is: How much interest would I have accumulated over the time spent frozen?
And; Would RBS still be tax payer funded/bailed out?

But what happens while your asleep and nuclear war breaks out, skynet take over or Alien invasion. Most would result in you basically dying in your sleep or awaking to a world basically being destroyed *Tightens tinfoil hat

Other things like death of said children while your asleep and not getting to see their future or the past you have slept through. I think you would wake up with no family wanting to be around you given how you haven't been about for them and now want to be around them.

For me I would like to know how you felt after waking up. I mean like if you did a week sleep do you wake up feeling like you have had the best sleep ever or wake up feeling terrible.

You can all tell im thinking to much about this.

I just hope they unfreeze me before going bust:D

However if you get frozen early enough in life then wake me in 100yrs and if we dont have interstellar travel put me to sleep again.

This is just it for me. I'd want to start out with the money I stashed away and happily live out my days jumping systems.
