Would you feel a bit insulted?

Where's everybodys sense of humour lol. Surely the first thing you'd check is the batteries before making yourself look stupid. Even somebody with a low IQ would do that as a first point of call.

Or maybe i'm underestimating mankind?

Having once taken a phone call in my old job whereby the person proceeded to ask 'how do I turn my computer on' I have no doubt that the general public is retarded.

My mum didn't turn the computer on she had for a few weeks until I was back at home for her to ask how. On telling her she could just press the big button at the front, she said she thought of that but didn't want to break anything or start anything that could damage the PC that she didn't know how to stop. I don't think people are retarded, they just don't know about technology. They are essentially afraid because they don't understand. Isn't that basic humanity?

You'd think this wouldn't you? Working in tech support I can tell you however that this isn't the case.

Did you remember to turn the power off, wait 10 seconds, then back on?

Did you remember to unplug the device, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in?

You would be surprised how many times that works for wireless mice :)

Nope. The thing you should have done though is told them everything you'd tried when you wrote your original email. That way you don't get suggestions like this.

You don't do it because you're afraid they're going to 'insult' you by suggesting it. You do it to save time, because these guys don't know who you are and therefore have to start from the ground up. Telling you to check the batteries isn't an insult, it is the first port of call.

You live in Redcar, like me, do you really think half of our populace would check the batteries? :D

Someone on eBay asked for a refund because an item I sent allegedly wasn't working. I asked him if he had replaced the batteries, didn't hear anything after that!

Ask anyone who has worked tier 1 tech support, there is no such thing as underestimating the stupidity of some users.

Agreed, i spent god knows how long on the phone to a user who's mouse was not working, ignoring all questions to 'have you plugged it in' to finally get the response, 'its wireless.' knowing full well we dont issue any wireless device out i had to email her colleague an image of the mice we issue out for her to reply 'yea thats the one, the one with the long aerial.......

To the OP, their response was hardly witty or sarcastic, Tier 1 have to start from the simplest of solutions and work from their.
Just reply with the information they ask otherwise as stated i can imagine your call been dealt with just before its SLA expires!;)
