Would you game on a gaming laptop?

Graphics card slower than GTX 560, plays everything "maxed out, modded, 3D"?

Yeah, I don't think so.

Well ive nothing to gain from lieing?
It plays the latest M payne maxxed out, smooth as butter.
Skyrim modded that to the hilt, no problems apart from the odd mod conflict.
Although the 3D is very impressive especially on Skyrim, its not really my thing.
Im currently playing Borderlands 2 ,and Dishonored:)

The machine never overheats, and of course you have the built in overclock utility, which im a bit wary of using.
And is very quiet.

I might have to go down this route. Moving in with the girlfriend at the end of the year, while i have 'spot' in the house to play on my desktop and she's happy right now for me to game up stairs, i've got a feeling she'll feel like i never see her haha. So im back thinking if i should sell the pc and game downstairs while she watches whatever. 6 and half a dozen to me.

I know i know haha. I know exactly what she's like and to be fair, i too dont exactly want to be in another room 90% of the time. Actually, i just done the stupid thing of telling her this idea and she agrees. Looks like i've already lost my 'spot' haha.

Anyone else like playing about on the dell website you can really go nuts with the laptop tool. This would be an absolute epic laptop if you were insane enough to buy it. How long would the battery last though heh. :D

Used to have just my 15" mbp to game on, ended up conceding that after 2 and a half years it was beaten by Deus ex hr :(

Will go back to that set up when I am a bit older, don't have to right now though :D

*SNIP*

Haha yeah im on that site too. One minute your like "Its not that bad" the next its "HOW MUCH????"

It's a question of "what's the situation" at the moment I have no need to for laptop so no, but if I travelled a lot then of course. There laptops that are plenty powerful enough to run new games well, the bank balance wouldn't be too healthy though :)

You'll get a heck of lot more gaming done without being moaned at if you sit in the same room as the missus whilst they watch junk telly... You can just put the laptop on your lap (I do however recommend you get a laptop tray unless you want to cook your legs) and enjoy a game and know you'll not get moaned at lol

Seems a few are saying no way, but I wonder if they got married, had kids, missus complained etc etc... Would they really pass up the chance to game still if it meant using a laptop with, lets face it in most cases not a lot of difference for a lot of PC games then what you'd get on a desktop if you kit out a right spec laptop.

I'd rather be able to play a new PC game even if it means slightly less detail, less AA at sub 60fps, or even 30fps then not at all..

I played, and completed Batman Arkham city on a Dell Studio, just meant I ran the game at 30fps most of the time instead of 60fps.. didn't bother me, still got to play it.. :D

Got the same gaming laptop, whilst I don't have benchmarks to hand, I tend to go with 'it feels fine to me' anyhow approach nothing much I've ran on my 700G has stuttered to failed to run at native provided I don't got OTT with the AA.

Metro 2033 still has issues if you crank up the details, Batman Arkham City struggles with DX11 - but then what system doesn't..??

Good laptop, highly recommended.

not upgraded since the 5850 and to be honest dont game as hardcore as I used to with the growing family a good laptop is probably the next purchase. one question do they get too hot for use on your actual lap?

Yes, yes they do which is why I recommend a laptop tray. Argos sells one for around £10 which is big enough for a 17" laptop and a mouse with a mouse pad.

Its said, although I don't know how true this is, that extended use of a laptop on your lap can effect your fertilely…

Now, I don’t know if that is totally true, but whenever I game on my laptop without my tray, my legs get really hot, and the missus is always saying ‘get that tray out if you’re going to play on that silly thing’ etc or something to those words..

Yeah your legs do get pretty hot. But really if you're planning on gaming on a laptop, game on a table or as tecman said, get a tray. Gaming on your lap is kinda like throwing a duvet over your pc tower. Least with a table/tray the air can circulate underneath it.

But I'm happy to spend around £1500 on a gaming laptop that I know will last me years n years. I should be able to get good money for my PC at the moment so I'm not that bothered. Plus the whole gaming on the move, or even just 'pc' on the move. Sounds like a win win. Just gotta find a good deal and I'll happily get one.

Yeah, I'm off away this weekend and it's great to take the laptop as not only is it great for a quick game but also has all my films and stuff so it's great in that respect.

Problem when I tried to spec a pc I always went over budget once all the peripherals had been added, so £1300 on a laptop all in with an i7 and 7970m and lots more and the mobility made sense even if it does sit on a desktop 80% of the time.

Yep, despite having a HD7970 Eyefinity setup on my desktop I often find myself gaming on my Asus N55SL despite the latters vastly lower performance.

It plays most things I have thrown at it with a mixture of High / Medium settings at its native 1600x900 resolution.

I have long since given up caring about absolutely maxing everything out (especially in Eyefinity) as simpy put; when gaming I can't see the difference between 2xMSAA and 4xMSAA, especially not with FXAA or equivilant. In static shots yes but I don't play static shots.
