Hi Guys

I have a 2005 Ford Focus Diesel 2.0 TDCi. The oil was last changed two years ago, since when I've done 2,000 miles. Do you think I should get an oil change done?

Thanks

I'd drain the oil, stick the hose in the oil filler hole and flush out the engine before putting in new oil.*

*Disclaimer:
Don't do this.

Common service recommendations are to change the oil every 10-12K miles or once a year whichever comes first. So get it changed annually at the very least, even if doing low mileage.

Yes.

P.S I'd sell it and buy a X6, as it seems to be recommend a lot on these forums for some reason.

OP: My Focus is remapped, so you could argue it needs servicing more often. A few years ago it did 6000 miles in 18 months (between services), but I did this knowing I am generally very anal over my car servicing. Decent parts, good brand of oil.

How 'good' your oil is depends on lots of factors. If you have just a small amount of water then the lubricating effect of the oil is reduced, plus it degrades more quickly.

I'm no diesel lover, but the 2.0 136 has a 6 speed box and is generally a reliable lump and is quick enough. You shouldn't have a DPF either.

Keep it until:
1) It struggles to start (injectors can't build enough pressure. Replacement = £££), but don't confuse this with it struggling to start as low battery voltage or engine has just been sat for ages!
2) You gently touch the clutch and can feel violent shaking in the pedal (DMF replacement = £££. Add a clutch too).

Do you find the clutch very heavy in your car? Mine is, to the extent that if I'm in traffic for half a mile, my leg starts to ache. However, I'm not sure whether it's normal for the car, or related to wear. I don't want to spend the money to change it anyway.

Mileage is irrelevant. It's 2yrs old and needed changing as per the service interval (may even be less than two years on fords?)

Engine oil isnt crude oil.
