Would you guys say this is quick?

Hi there

Long straight airfield, flat.
Car in 3rd gear, cruising at 2000rpm (circa 35mph).
Floor it and let off at 6500rpm (circa 117-119mph).

Time taken to go from 2000rpm - 6500rpm in 3rd = 10.48s (36mph - 119mph in 3rd)

Honest oppinions is that quick without going through the gears?

The timing is spot on, no stop watches or anything, proper timing equipment.

Oppinions?

Anybody got any similar info from other cars?

With some fine tuning this can be achieved in approx 9.5 - 9.8s.

I wouldnt say it was particulary quick, it you get to the low 9's then that would be nice

From a rolling start, agreed. Its fast, but nothing particuarly out of the ordinary

For a sort-of comparison, an Evo FQ-400 takes 14.92sec to go from 40mph to 120mph going through the gears (2nd up through to 5th). And people do say the FQ-400 is a quick car.

For info, E36 M3 takes 11.33 seconds to do 30-101mph (limiter in 3rd)

I'm more impressed by the fact that you can do 115mph in third! I think mine limits at about 86mph IIRC.

0-100 in 12s is doing well. that car went from 2000rpm in 3rd (ie not full bore standing start) and added about 100mph on top of 30mph.

what other figures you getting?

Takes 10 seconds for the turbo to spool up!

hehe my car only does around 90 or so in 3rd - but I've got a fairly short ratio gearbox. I'd say that's pretty fast - I have no idea how long my car takes to get from 30-max in 3rd or my bike for that matter.

To me that seems pretty quick.

As it was all in 3rd gear then that's pretty quick. If you were going up through the gears then it's not all that impressive.

Aren't there more 'traditional' ways of measuring how quick it is?

30-70 or something that you might be able to find a comparison with.

Do you know what it did it in before the SC?

I can only tell you from 30-120 in an M5, in fourth gear takes nearly 25 seconds. Hang on!

edit: yeah, come up with some better measurements!

In-gear times, in third for a Gallardo are as follows:

20-40 - 2.5
30-50 - 2.0
40-60 - 1.9
50-70 - 2.0
60-80 - 2.2

And from standing start, the Gallardo up to 120 takes 14 seconds. Not forgetting it's got the traction from an AWD system.

like i said... a fast car will do 0-100 in 12s. that will involve a pretty impressive start

his did that in 3rd from low revs. there is no denying that that is fast

I reckon my car can do that and it certainly isnt very very quick.
