Would you hold fire on splashing out right now?

I built my current rig over 12 months ago and currently feel no urge to upgrade - 1st time I'v had a rig for more than a year. The component were so good when they came out that the life they have is astonishing. Probably wont upgrade until xmas now.

Of course he should hold out. Whether you agree or not, that card will be out of date in a couple of months maybe even weeks.

If he has the money to splash on a GTX295, he might aswell hold on for next gen cards.

Even if you on a budget, you should hold out, as person above says the prices will drop once the new ones out.

Either way silly time to buy a GPU imo.

Why's that then?

I think some of the GPU's available at the moment offer great value for money, so why should he "hold out"?

Also, what do you mean by out of date? Expired? No longer useful?

Surely they will be even more great value with a nice price drop in less than a month.

It's not like he going to have to wait 6 months for price drop.

Whether you want the new cards or the ones out at moment, it makes sense to hold on imo.

Gaming wise I7 doesn't offer much of a boost for gaming over the top end of 775.

I remember that Operation Flash point didn't run smoothly on the current crop of cards. It just happens that way some times. Plus crysis is seeming to be be a mess coding wise.

Even if he get's a GTX 260, that's still a card that can last another year without needing a DX11 card. The DX11 cards might possibly be cheaper when it comes to your GTX 260 to not handle situations as well as it could.

Lots of money has already come off the 260, also the 4870's and the 4890's hardly expensive for what it is at the moment. So over the next few months, I don't see these dropping a huge amount further, even after the new ATI cards appear. For Nvidia, it could well be significantly longer than that.

Only thing that may help is an improving exchange rate, but don't see that happening either.

If we all put off buying "for a few months" to see what happens, there's always something new to hold out for. I've done it, as have countless others.

A 260-216 at c. £120 is a great card, that will last at least 12 to 18 months coping with most current & new games thrown at it, if paired with a well clocked CPU and enough RAM. By that time, we'll know where DX11 is and the technology will have been improved and therefore could be more cost effective.

I always found you would always end up "holding out" - there is always new tech just around the corner, if you always wait; you'll never end up getting anything!

Given the choice of waiting 4 months and buying i7 or getting a q9550 then and there, I bought the quad. No regrets, the four months of use is worth more than the slightly quicker speed of i7.

I wouldn't buy the CPU yet, lets wait and see what happens when the new Athlon comes out... because that might drop the price of the 955 black edition even further.... because you'll kick yourself if you buy now and find it's dropped by 50 quid in August.

as for the graphic card/ mobo.... leave it to the last minute....set yourself a calendar deadline...dont over run it...why not wait? there's no decent FPS about to come out... it's quiet right now, what's the rush to upgrade.

if i can get by old rig downstairs working by Friday, then i'll be ok, i'll start building my new rig with a finish date of July 2010, i'll make it an interesting project, take my time..... i might miss a new pc release?.........well what, i'll buy it second hand 4 months later, after all, Fallout 3 only cost me 12 quid....FEAR 2 cost 10 quid and the old ``Prey`` 4 quid... or free if i trade for other games!

when is Crysis 2 Doom 4...due out....ages yet......GRAW 3 ?.....i can play that on my current rig ..... no rush to upgrade

just my opinion
