Would you join a gaming/tech group?

how do you jump to that. It's nonsense. Becuase people use a forum, they never go out, lol what.

Yeah it's difference in a better way you have info avilable.

IRL
have you seen this new raspberry pi
No
What is it.
It's a PC on a stick
What spec is it
I don't know.
What can it do
I don't know.
Let's get more info, oh wait we can't.
End discussion.

I think this problem has largely been overcome with the advent of almost ubiquitous smart phones.

Really hasn't, have you tried discussion from a smart phone. You can answer the odd question. But a conversation has a flow and needs to be quick replies a forum is a much more sedentary pace and allows for greater information in a rich format.

Groups are extremely popular especially in motors where they are based around an activity you can't do online. For example
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18354408

But other things with new tech, there comes a better way of doing things and technology discussion is most certainly done better online.

It doesn't just have to be about new tech. It could be to swap equipment, maybe take some cash along with you to buy some things.

I don't know suggestions are welcome.

just LMAO. I'm not going to stand there Googling answers to talk to people! Gosh.

IF anyone would be Interested in a get together (North-East, UK) and some suggestions about what the events could be drop me a mail in trust and I will help gather some info together to see what is what.

It's just nice to get out the house once in a while.

not a good idea it might get violent when the AMD/intel arguments and such start up :p

...getting hit in the face with a classic '80s IBM Model M really hurts too, luckily it has drainage channels for the blood so there won't be any damage to the keyboard.

Well one discussion I'd like to do in real life is how people now prefer to talk about tech and games online. Considering the heated debate going on lol.

Meeting in life I think would be a great way to make real life friends, and exchange info and perhaps hardware, it would be great to go from an online persona to knowing the people behind the online nicknames. I bet if people in forums knew each other there would be easier less trolling and insulting.

If any IS interested in the idea, click trust and drop me an email.

A little alteration would help that. I mean, there is meets for other stuff but you don't see many LAN parties or get together events like IT used to be.

More suggestions would be good. It doesn't have to be just games and technical discussions. Potentional to swap hardware or just general get together.

The consoles section used to have a very popular yearly LAN, real shame it died out as it was great fun.

Really, no. Forums are enough for what you're describing, and I don't need any excuses to get out of my house :p

LANs are different, however.

What is a PAN party?

People playing games over bluetooth (Personal Area Network).

I'm assuming the OP means a LAN party :p

Agree with this. While it could be a laugh to discuss the latest tech malarkey while getting drunk and playing games, I don't think it would work as the prime function of the group, since as has been said already, a forum is a far superior medium for this.

Could be a laugh if there is drinking and gaming involved. Dropped you an email for more info (depends where in midlands too ofc :))

Yeah sorry I have been mostly replying from my phone, predictive text seems to prefer playing over a Personal Area Networn

It would be at first just a group of people meeting up for a drink and talk but with luck there will be gaming and lan partys involved. If it does get to that point where we do have a LAN party, could maybe do a tournament with prizes

I'm fully open to suggestions though. The location I was thinking was the Stoke area but possibly Stafford for easier links for those from Birmingham etc. Would rather easy train routes and bus routes ofc

Got your email and replied to it with further details :)

ocuk is what you describe to me Mr OP.

Its not really the same though is it? I've not even got a pint in my hand, though thats probs because i'm at work sat next to my manager with OcUK and Facebook open.

But back OP, Forums are great for the masses. But not really a place i'd want to go for friendly discussion face to face etc ofc.

Not quite the same as being sat round a table with people
