Would you join a gaming/tech group?

My sister runs a film club where 12-odd takes it in turns to play a DVD then they discuss it afterwards. Start off with friends, then friend-of-friends etc. I think a tech club could work like that.

This is true. There are all sorts of things which could work really

I don't think it's a bad idea but it'd have to be really local and I'm not sure you'd get that much interest / enough people in a small enough area. For example, if it was only a 5-10 minute drive for everyone for a few drinks and a chat with some like-minded people that'd be ok but a long-ish journey would just put people off.

It'd be aimed at the West Midlands. Well anyone from Manchester, Stoke, Stafford, Birmingham.... easy access by the WCML.

Maybe a North East Club could start on par.

Quite possibly. Well anyone can come along but ofc i doubt you'd want to travel vast distances for it.

But i'd research local groups and if none that fit the bill in the north east, you could start one? See how it goes :)

Though don't ask me for advise as i have no idea myself but hey, will be fun finding out how to organise this :D

It could work, but you'd need a format, these people need to know what they're getting into. Membership and chat is for anyone, but RL stuff is for the core.

1. Facebook Group
2. Regular Events (pub lunch, nights out)
3. Special Events (london meet)

Who would invite you? :p

Well your thread title is "Would you join a gaming/tech group?". My answer to that is no. If you mean to suggest that the thread is no longer on topic, I can always close it for you.

And before you ask, yes, my ban hammer does also work in real life :p

I wouldn't want to meet up IRL to talk about tech stuff.

I'd want to meet up for paintball, karting, footy, etc, etc. I sure as hell wouldn't want to talk about tech stuff down the pub, for instance :D
