Would you leave an oven unattended ?

My mum used to put the turkey in the oven on Christmas eve night at a very low temperature and leave it to cook overnight. I've done the same but I probably wouldn't leave the house. At least while doing it overnight we have smoke/fire alarms that can alert us if the turkey decides to spontaneously combust.

Yes I frequently put beef stew in to slow cook for 4 hours and then go fishing, lovely smell when I get back and after getting frozen on the shore it is warming and delicious.

Wouldn't do it with a gas oven though.

It's weird because as people have pointed out the fridge is on all the time and I certainly don't worry about that. I don't have a slow cooker but want to get one and would expect to leave it and come home to lovely grub although in fairness the Mrs tends to be home on weekdays.

But the oven ? Still would worry about it.
Had a few misgivings about a food dehydrator. Some things were 36 hours Drying. Then it turned out to be a nightmare to clean and so gathers dust.

Please to share recipe! :D

Hmmm....... If you really want it i can probably get you the recipe from my mate, all i know is it was a 7 kilo shoulder of pork cooked at 220 for 30 mins to get the crackling (pork skin/rind/fat idk what it is but it tastes pretty good) partially cooked, and then it was left to cook for 23 hours and 30 mins at 120 i think. rubbed it with olive oil, salt, thyme, lemon and garlic.
Basically this http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/...d-aromatic-shoulder-of-pork-recipe/index.html she has a different rub but i know it was rubbed in olive oil first, then salt and then the other ingredients mix it with roasties cooked in goose fat, vegies and gravy and it is sex on a plate. :D:D

I would prefer not having to replace 1000s upon 1000s of music gear & guitars I'm in love with.
I can't imagine how long it would take my fire damaged NAS back to how it is now.

Thankfully that doesn't apply to me, everything I own in the house is easily replaceable.

It is fine. If it ever dod catch fire it is in a metal box. There isn't much else to catch fire. It would burn out. It would be mega rare. Almost impossible. And on top of that people have insurance.
