Would you leave an oven unattended ?

I don't get it, what are you actually going to do if your oven/washing machine/dryer bursts into flames due to a random fault?

I'd rather not be at home tbh.

Just don't be an utter moron and go on a spur of the moment holiday while your beef is cooking in the oven.

Almost every home appliance apart from the cooker is timed. You literally can't forget to turn them off.

My washing machine and dishwasher are turned off at the wall isolation point when not in use. Water and electricity... 'nuff said.

Slow cooker is fine though.

This is amazing advice, though I'm not sure if the beef cooking in the oven is a euphemism. :D

It works both ways, if it is a euphemism it's also fairly sound advise. When women finally put out and then you just get up and leave half way through they get fairly angry.

After working in a domestic appliance test lab for 27 years I would not leave anything on while going out.
I have seen a quite a few accidents.

Guess what? The moment you round the corner, a 747 could crash into your house from above! What on earth would happen if you weren't there!?

We leave stuff in the oven all the time. Worst that could happen is that food gets overcooked (which can happen when you are in the house but misjudged timing).

TBH the reason I'm still awake at nearly 5am is that I just don't trust the fridge anymore. He sits there all smug and shiny while bitching about the TV being a loose cannon and not to be trusted

If the oven or any appliance develops a fault and were to go on fire say at least if you were there then you could cal fire brigade and in my case as someone who lives in a block of flats with 5 neighbours you could alert others. If I was out and something happened I am potentially putting those people at risk.

When we go out we always leave the oven on but also run the bath so that it eventually overflows. This acts as a fire retardant and has ensured that our house has never burnt down. We have, however, had to replace the carpet over three hundred times.
