Would you pay 19k for this???

like i said on the whole replacement for displacement thing. its kind of like choosing size of car. i would much sooner have a 2L turbo nova over any V8 american car or what ever , even if its not rwd i am looking for chuckability and fun. were as most people just seem to want to be lazy put there foot down and it goes quicker and i accept that but its not what i want. i like to be shaken to bits by the car lol.
i know someone that has a V6 in an astra van he is selling on ebay atm and i havent been in it but my other mate said its only as fast as his old astra LET, i considerd his astra quite slow tho.(not slow but not quite what you might expect but it had a lot mroe potential than the V6 has)

anyway i am going on now i am tired lol
appolagies:P

I think you are getting me from the wrong angle here Trickle, i LIKE turbocharged cars, my last car was a 2.0 Turbo MR2 and i liked that very much. It was merely in response to minidan's failure to understand the need for larger capacity engines when you can turbo a smaller one :)
There must have been a lot of similar dicussions in the late eighties in Japan over this. I wonder if any american car companies are currently doing the same thing :)

I thought it was the French hearing a rumour about a Lupo 3ltr and building a competitor, before realising that the Lupo was a 100km on 3ltr of fuel?
Other way around my friend, as if Le Francois give an onion what zee Germans get up to!

VW heard a whisper that Renault were producing a 3lt car. One of the head's then shouted out an order like "das spekkin zee Frogs mina auto 3lt schnell, schnell!" and thus worked around the clock to create a car that could also manage 3lt of fuel per mile.

That's when Renault shown the world how they've stuffed a 3lt V6 engine into the back of a Clio where the rear seats should be.

Oh how I imagine zee Germans must have laughed.

*my German is as rusty as a WW2 rifle.

As nice a story as it sounds, no chance imho.

The Lupo was breaking it's record in July 99, not sure how long before that the Rumours would have come about, the Clio V6 came out 2001.

Plus didn't they race V6s before having the road going versions?

As said, they were made in the same vein as the old Turbo 2. As it was something so radical for a car company to do really I'm not surprised there are little stories like this as there isn't a rational explanation, they made it 'cos they wanted too. The Veryon is another example of a car like this, they made it as a proof on concept and will lose huge amounts on each one sold.

£19k For a Clio ? Thats almost funny....

For £19k I would....

... Probably buy a 530d Sport :(

For me, if I was in the position to afford £19K for a car*, an e39 M5 would be my choice, no probable about it.

*More chance of finding a Whale in the Thames... Oh wait! :o :D

No I personally wouldn't pay £19k for this clio :p

However I could understand why someone might, it's an interesting special edition and it will probably find it's way into some dude's heated garage, the sort of dude to whom £19k is pocket change and he already owns 3 M5's ;)

That said, today I met someone who paid £13k for a Smart brabus (not roadster) so anything is possible :D
