Wow - newbie guide/help ?

The CD key is now in use so its locked to your account, although you should have taken it from the case selling the discs since nobody else can use it.

You just need to reinstall the game then, theres probably a WoW trial you can use to get the game on the net.

Are there actually any players on the old servers (like Earthen Ring) who aren't off in Outland playing their level 70s? I have a 60 who I got bored of and some 40s/30s who I might go back to one day, would I just be running around on my own? Is Ironforge deserted now?

True, but you can get the feel of a class around lvl 10

Not according to 99% of players....most people seem to think you don't have a clue what you're talking about if you haven't hit 60 with that class.

Right, so the person I sold it too wouldn't have been able to start their own account?

thanks for the info

nah cuz when using the CD-key online for his account creation he would have got some error message saying it was in use and then be prompted to login I suppose, assuming only you have the login info technically the CD-key is still yours.

im new to the game and I had guideance from to level 70 mates.

They said go with hunter as at level10 you can get a pet which acts as a personal tank (damage taker).

If you go Warlock you get a pet at 10 that will tank for you, 20 that will deal damage for you, and 30 that will do a bunch of other stuff, mainly against other casters....and you can change them round whenever you like. Plus no one wants a hunter in a group, whereas everyone wants a warlock because they can summon/give healthstones/soulstones/AoE properly.

No, if they have the cd key, the account is theirs. You will need to buy a new copy.

Also yes, you have no idea until max level. you'll be acquiring new skills and spell all the way through and playstyle changes aswell.

That's rubbish. Play styles don't vary that drastically, it's very easy to get a feel of a class by 20.

I'd say playing to 20 would give you a good feel for the class. Although someone new to the game may take quite a while to get to 20.

If you're not sure which class to play roll a druid, will give you experience of tanking, healing, melee damage and caster damage, although you won't ever truely excel at any of them.

omg quoted for truth, couldnt agree more with this line. Its a shame all my guild are like this :(

I play a Druid and i would recommend him to anyone, amazing class and are v fun to play with. But we warned if you ever find at any point in the game you can actually put up a fight againest any other class, Then the ZOMG! kids come out and the nerf bat comes out..

I would suggest any of the hybrid classes: druid, shaman, paladin would be a great place to start. They will give you experience of healing, dealing damage (comparable at low level) and tanking.

You may decide at a later stage to go for a more focused approach by choosing an out and out tank (for example).

Also voting for choosing a Paladin. You can get a feel for the 3 basic skills in WoW (Healing, Tanking and DPS) by level 20 and then decide which you like doing best. If you want to carry on doing a bit of each then carry on your Paladin, otherwise re-roll a class that does the function you enjoy best.

So your warrior wont turn in to a tanking machine instead of the semi-dps that you do whilst levelling?

Your rogue will actually use stealth to sneak around whilst raiding? k .......

Your shaman wont sit there casting ... heal .... heal .... drop totem ... heal ?

You're going to use your pet for something other than sacrificing in raiding? (bar 1 warlock for imp sometimes)

Your druid will heal .... heal some more and then heal a bit more and if youre very very lucky run around as a bear and sit there tanking. Slightly different to the cat form dps with a bit of balance in there whilst levelling.

Priests dont get shadowform by level 20 so the usual levelling wont reflect endgame, as thats either shadowform or pure healing.

Hunters pets are used endgame yes, hunters at not often used in raids though so you might aswell only go hunter if you dont want to do any pve.

Paladins like to beat on mobs with a big 2 hander and awesome looking spells whilst levelling ..... sorry but you'll be sat there blessing an entire raid every 15mins and spamming flash of light.

Of course none of this is a relevant change if you compare sub level 20 to end game playstyle. i must be mistaken :(

Oh right, I forgot that no-one does any instances before end game.

EDIT: also, not everyone cares about endgame pve. I hate raiding, but I like to pvp or play with friends. Not everyone thinks the only part of the game is when you hit 60/70. My boyfriend has only ever done one raid and has been playing since launch day, yet he has had plenty of fun leveling, playing with RL friends and running battlegrounds. I'm currently playing 3 characters - a 70 priest, 42 warlock and 62 mage. I have much more fun with the mage and the warlock because there are still things to obtain that don't require raiding.

I don't want to play a holy priest, so I don't. I don't want to play a frost mage, so I don't. It's exactly the same for me as a shadow priest in instances at 70 as it was to play a shadow priest running around Hellfire Peninsula at 60, the only difference is that fighting a boss means the spells are cast more than a normal mob.

You can get a "feel" for the class by lvl 20, of course you can. Saying you can't is utter rot. No you won't know everything about the class or your role in a raid but that's hardly the point of the thread is it?

As for a first toon i'd choose a hunter as its easy to play reasonably well and solo quests etc. Quick to level and explore probably the fastest way to find out if WoW is for you.
