WOw second character :P

i'd aim for something like this if you're set on demonology/felguard spec,

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info...000052030133250103501351505000010000000000000

possibly swap 1 or 2 points out of mana feed into demonic resilience, never used felguard much but i remember it running out of mana quite fast so i left the 3 points there.
dont you hate not having instant corruption? 0o thats the first talent i get on my warlocks (and i've got 2 at lvl 70)

I don't use corruption as most mobs are dead before it gets half way through. I really don't want to have to go back to affliction until I hit 70.

Lifetap gives your pet 100% of the mana you get too because of the mana feed talent. So mana never seems to be an issue.

their damage mitigation is the same aside from an extra shield block

That extra shield block is huge, since it's the difference between the chance to take a crushing blow and no chance to take a crushing blow. That's on normal bosses with a 2 second swing timer. Defense warriors get more out of their armour and the extra threat is very important on fights where it's a race between healer mana and boss hit points.

This WoW topic has wandered off track (as usual :) ) but to try and recover it I'll also take issue with the comment that Arms is the dps spec now. It's true in PvP, but Fury is still the tree for raid dps. And yes a Warrior is viable in top end raids. My experience so far suggests they won't outdps rogues but they bring other things to the table. So to the OP, a Warrior would be a reasonable choice for dps. Just don't expect to have it easy getting into a guild as a dps Warrior, since most guilds need tanks not dps.

yeah thats why i left the 3 points in mana feed. just trying to give you some pointers, played my locks for almost 2 years now dont want to sound like a know it all or insult your playstyle or anything but i reckon you could level a lot faster. you mentioned wanding at one point i mean...seriously  if the mob is dying half way through corruption its dying faster....if you're standing around waiting for mobs to die instead of getting more your pretty much just wasting time.

affliction is so much better for levelling apart from a few elite quests that the felguard can tank (the nesingwary safari ones in nagrand) and there are other warlock tricks you can use for those :). with affliction you can fully dot 1 mob fear it then grab another fully dot it and then fear that one the first will come running back and die at your feet and played right you'll end up on almost full mana and hp and can just run around killing non stop. demonology isnt bad for grinding i tried it levelling my second lock and it seemed slower to me and i respecced at about lvl 63/64 back to affliction if you aren't pulling aggro of your pet your doing crap dps.

But theres no difference at all in an arms warrior tanking over a protection warrior (with the same gear), aside from the prot warrior having more threat, their damage mitigation is the same aside from an extra shield block which is handy but only needed for some bosses (prince only) at a kara/heroic level

Dude you are asking for people to get frustrated with that comment and flame that post left, right and center.

Arms Warriors do NOT have the following where as Protection do.

Vitality - 5% more health than Arms or Fury.
Devisate - Keeps your threat high so a mage or rogue has less chance to steal aggro and possibly end up wiping the raid.
Shield Slam - Best move for a Warrior to generate threat.
Concussion Blow - Great for tanking trash with more than 1 mob.
Last Stand - Priest could be healing rest of grp from AoE and this could save the raid as it will increase your health long enough to get the heals you need.
Shield Block - This can make you immune to Crushing Blows which at end game can cause instant death to the tank if it is not blocked.

There is lots and lots of reasons why Prot is the only real viable option, I dont want to call you a bad Warrior for thinking it is fine to goto Kara and tank as Fury or Arms (and if you did I think it would be as an OT for perhaps Moroes and the odd bit of trash which is fine). But seriously, it is not an option and as healers point out in this thread, you burn there mana.

I felt happy to have tanked heroic mech as Arms a year ago but we died easy 5 or 6 times. Never again did I tank a heroic or above as Arms.

Post above beat me to it, but didn't mention Focused Rage, Defiance, Imp Sunder, etc.

Think about your healers too - Priests especially base their healing around the 5s rule, and regeneration. They cannot spam heals like Paladins, or HoTs like Druids. A non Prot tank requires spam healing, and Priests are awful at it.

Given the harder hitting bosses in TBC, Prot is the only way to tank. Offspecs are fine in raids, indeed TBC made them so, but if you want to tank, it's Prot. It's only people who haven't played healers that think otherwise (I've played a Paladin, Priest and Warrior all in end game raiding).

I actually got lazy and could not be bothered to mention the lesser ones from the main skills I listed, I thought I was dragging the post on :p

In conclusion though by not being Prot as main tank you do 2/3 things.

1. Slow DPS as you need time to build aggro - and DPS have to be very careful (not viable in raids).
2. You take a lot more damage.
3. You cannot tank multiple mobs as easy as being Prot making your second tank in a raid who may be a hybrid have a hard time - more healing done, DPS all over the place = messy messy.

I got asked to attend a PUG Kara on my mostly retired Priest the other day. I checked out the Warrior via the Armoury and he was 31/30/0 with blues/early Kara epics. I told him I'd give it a miss as it's simply not worth the hassle of spamming top-rank Greater Heals to keep him alive, whilst getting loads of aggro from other mobs because you're dumping so much healing into the tank.

i havnt read all the other posts cos im lazy!

and i know your against shammys... but their DPS is absolutly mental as soon as you get wind fury... i thought they were boring until then though tbh! but im loving it now - my first shammy, lvl 62 currently, and ive not been anything less than top in damage meters in all the instances ive been in, including instances in outlands - not sure how i will fair at end game, but might go resto! not sure...

epic spec rogues hasnt matched my dps yet, and my gear isnt exactly brilliant! still using some crappy axes from lvl 51, lol!

ive had a hunter at end game also, and again, some stupidly mad DPS, and its nice to have a pet cos you can CC too, quite intricate in a way, good hunters are hard to come about if you ask me. i was class leader of my old ally guild with my hunter... untill i sold her :( i got into debt! oops!

Locks are fun! ive got 2, cos i like them that much! Affliction is where its at though if you ask me! :)

plenty of insta/short cast spells, with high damage, decent aoe and just watch the numbers fly :) - great for solo work too! cant beat a bit of lock! brilliant for PvP too! :)

and because its dot's you dont get as much aggro as mages/rogues etc!... pluss you have pets! :)

Rogues ive only ever got one to lvl 40, their incredible fun :) lots of damage! but never had the time to carry on leveling! and a rogue wasnt in need at my old guild!
