Hiya,

I'm going on the WoW 10 day trial, I won't be able to dedicate a huge amount of time to the game but a few friends who have been playing it a long time have said they'd give me a hand and get me into their guild so I have people to talk to and get advice from :) Only if I stay after the trial of course..

I intend to be a little Gnome Warlock, the class just appeals to me and since I'll probably solo a fair bit I thought it'd be nice to have a pet to keep me company (plus I liked pet classes in DAOC).

Any tips? (other than don't start playing :p ) I did play WoW before as a Druid but think it was a poor choice of character and I was still playing DAOC at the time!

Don't get into the whole "powerleveling" thing that seems to be popular in WoW. Just explore the world as it's your first character and take time to get to know places.

Try and go through the dungeon(s) for your level a few times to help learn about your characters abilities while working in a group.

I personally don't think professions are worth leveling in WoW due to the better quality drops you get from mobs so just get a couple of gathering professions and use them for your mount cash (though Paladins and Warlocks get free mounts).

Start with a PvE server as the PvP will annoy you at times if you're not used to it. You can still PvP in Battlegrounds, which I found a lot of fun.

I'd recommend trying different classes up to level 10 and then pick the style of play you prefer. I'm definately a caster girl, one of my friends will only play a rogue and my boyfriend prefers warlocks and hunters over everything else, everyone is different. The only way to find what you like really is to play for a while :).

I've always found leveling alliance non-night elf characters really tough as you have to travel a lot to get the same experience between level 10 and 20 as with horde. When I started, I really wanted to play a human because I thought all horde were ugly, but now my two level 60s are undead.

If you don't have any RL friends who can help you, then I can be found on Jaedenar. I'd rather not post the name on forums, but if you post yours I'll come help ;).

If you're going for a warlock at high levels you need to do tailoring tbh. One of the best warlock robes in game is the Robe of the Void, which is tailored. You can buy the pattern and most of the materials in the auction house but the actual robe is bind on pickup, so you need to make it yourself. Or at least that was the situation when I last saw the pattern drop. But yeah, do get a gathering skill as your other main profession to make money - herbalism is good for making money (earthroot is usually a good seller at low levels). Don't under any circumstances do enchanting - it costs so much money compared to the others. First aid is a very useful secondary profession though.

P.S. the Warlock/Paladin mounts aren't free, you have to complete a real PITA quest for them which costs lots of gold too :)

I've started on a server starting with "T" sorry can't remember what it was called at the moment, my friends are all on there but I've no intention of being power leveled. I want to do the quest, learn the story lines etc and just play at my own pace, I won't have a huge amount of time to play anyway and I basically just want to enjoy the character building process and explore as I go along, I've been avoiding guides but I don't want to nerf my character so is there anything specifically as a warlock I should avoid specing in or can I more or less just spec as I want?

The level 40 mount quest is simply a "Hey you, giev mount!"
The level 60 is a long chain involving ~500g. Its quite fun :)

For your trial, be sure to join a chatty guild - its the community that makes the game. Talk to people in the zone you're in and ask for groups for everything. They make it faster AND more fun! Its a multiplayer game, play it the way it's meant :)

Warlocks are great for soloing, mages also due to being able to kite massive numbers of adds and knock em all down with AoE very fast.

Wouldnt call it one of the best by a long shot, but it is good :) Tailoring and enchanting are a good combo for a new player. Tailoring and skinning is the easiest to gather (the mats practically come to you :) ).

Good luck!

Erm as far as I can remember my warlock mount quest was non-existant, just spoke to a guy and got my mount for zero gold.

I wasn't sure what the status of the quest was these days, just that at the time I played an UD Warlock it was easy to get/"free". Could've changed though since then. :)

Roll a Warlock or Warrior, you will not regret either, best and most complex classes in the game hands down.
Oh and dont take any profession except for Herbalism/Alchemy, the rest are useless! Engineering to a slight degree is handy but all the good stuff has been nerfed to hell and back.

Most importantly, PLAY ON "FULL" PVP SERVER, Do not make the mistake of playing on an underpopulated pve server, this will be the reason you quit at 60 since theres nothing going on/lack of guilds to join (especially true for horde not so much for alliance).

get cosmos user interface

cosmosui.org

will give you access to map co-ords and loads of other cool features

helped me loads

I strongly disagree with this. Cosmos is horribly bloated, full of stuff you don't need or won't work, and sends data to people who sell gold for a living. Tbh just play the game then find the addons you think you'd like.

And I strongly disagree with this. On my Normal (not PvE) server there's loads of guilds recruiting all the time - granted not so many on the horde side but that just means there's less retards around too. I played on a PvP server for a while, as soon as you get into contested territory its impossible to do anything without getting ganked. Alliance warlocks have to go to the Barrens for the level 20 pet - that was a complete nightmare, I don't understand how anyone can find PvP servers "fun".

Oh is the OCUK group still around? I've been playing by myself on Jaedenar but there never seems to be anyone in the guild online. Getting a bit tired of being killed by players 10+ levels higher than me. :o

It costs £9 a month, if your wallet is "tahnk"ing you for it then i suggest you get a job :P
so in a year you spend 108 pounds+expansions and the game itself?
Ps3 looks a bargain to me now.

I migrated my level 60s because my boyfriend was playing there. I never saw anyone in the guild and then ended up deleting the character that was in it. What's your name in game and what level are you? I'll add you to my friends list and might be able to help you a little :).
My boyfriend is currently at level 32, so he might be able to pair up with you in game.

My first Char was Warlock, but I found I really liked Melee so I then built a 60 MS Warrior which I love by the way. I would say do a bit of reading on the classes and pick the one that suits you better
