**WoW vs War The discussion thread**

PvE its all about WoW IMHO

PVP is where WAR is gunna pwn WoW

I'm a PvE player mainly, Raiding is where my thing is at. But i do play on PVP servers and dable in it, I'm gunna try WAR until WOTLK and see how i get on. First 30mins in the beta were good fun, very very close to wow though.

Also i wouldn't compare to AoC that game is the biggest flop ever.

WOTLK comming out in 2months is gunna massively open up the MMO market, mainly between WoW and WAR, But LOTRO could come back if there expansion is about the tsame time.

A low level RvR vid I made from some random fights the other night:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qI_7ZTtKlg

That to me doesnt look clunky compared to WoWs combat. People seem to be basing views on old footage, and footage mainly showing havily armoured tanks whose movement *will* be restricted.
It gets a lot more fluid at higher levels with more skills.

That's better than what I've seen before but WoW still has a more fluid combat system I think.

For me playing on the net means having fun with a group of mates ;

WoW is a game you play with mates vs the Environment.

War is a game you play with mates vs other people.

Thats putting it very simply i know, some will like PvE others PvP and yet others both. For me its all about PvP.

I think WoWs visual style adds a lot to the perceived fluidity of it's combat i.e. because it's cartoon-esque it doesn't have to fit reality exactly, so it can take certain liberties in creating flowing animations and gameplay.
WaRs approach is more serious, so to an extent they are bound to animations within such a context. But I do feel the calls of WaRs combat and animation being slow, sluggish and robotic are premature and often wrong or misguided.

Fixed it.

No offence, but the animations still look poor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu6ezZp-tks

But the vid linked above is such poor quality that you can't use it as a comparison in regards to animation. All you can say is that the combat looks 'quicker', not more flowing or smooth. IMO the AV vid just shows jumping and AoE spamming, and i'd rather avoid that kind of 'PvP' (in quotes because thats poor PvP to me).
So your arguement can be reduced to: WoW is better because you can spam skills faster whilst running and jumping, and because damagae at that time was so great, you could take people down in seconds.

The combat in War looks sluggish and boring compared to WoW's more action packed and fluid system.

This can't even be argued with, I don't care if War is more indepth it simply looks clunky compared to how smooth WoW is.

My thoughts exactly. It's starting to grow on me though.

I don't think it will have the same impact and lastablility as wow, had on me.

Its a bad game, but it's one of the most fun games out there?

I was trying to be sarcastic by pointing out that some of the things wow has, arnt that bad and infact games copy from each others. So as such, they should all improve over time....

Should.......

I've played Wow since open beta and have also played in the War beta too.The main thing about Wow I loved was the world PvP..raiding crossroads or southshore was just immense fun.Encountering people questing of the opposite faction was superb too.It was worth the occasional bit of ganking to experience this.Battlegrounds killed world PvP and therefore,in my eyes, killed Wow.

I'll be playing War on release, simply because I loved the idea of huge PvP battles.PvP that's not about grinding honor points.PvP that's enjoyable.

I think thats what i found better with war the pure pvp (ok yes WAR is meant to be a pvp/rvr based game) But just the shear size of battles was insane.
One fight i had in nordland there was nearly 30-40 people all fighting for the little town bit it was truely amazing once people started working together.
You dont get that in wow at all. pvp in wow is pure grindfest in the bgs you just want to be in and out as quick as poss and arenas are just a joke unless you have a certain setup as a certain class and a certain spec with hardcore kit you dont stand a chance and being compedative.

Wait until the higher teirs when you have hundereds all attacking/defending a keep :D. You do need a meaty system to run that kind of RvR well - luckily mine is so it flows beautifully:p

Im gonna wait for WotLK to come out, then come to a judgement about WAR vs WoW.

Then, Warhammer has a chance to come out. For the honeymoon period to be over. And a chance for people to see the endgame.

However.

Ive seen some vids of Warhammers 'RvR' and TBH its not got me excited. You can thank Planetside for doing that to me. All this talk about 'epic mass battles' makes me yawn. In reality they are massive cluster*****, with AoE'ers doing all the damage. And thus, deciding the battle.
Also not impressed by any of the feedback about the classes. People have told me that "WAR will have totally ballanced sides at launch". Yet there are reports (by people on this forum) that the tanks are uber. Probably down to the fact they are unstoppable with a healer (Gee ive not heard that one before), couple that with players unable to walk through tanks and that sets up for some boring PvP action.

Ok, I know im starting to sound like a "W0W f@n boi". But ive played my fair share of MMO's and TBH WoW is simply the best there has been. IMHO, especially with the current information gathered from the NDA-Free Beta, the developers are keen and totally open to information gathered by the testers. To me, this says that WotLK will be at the very least, Great. And to put the cherry on the cake, no more 'Power Ranger' Armour. Although, I never had a problem with that. It is a fantasy game. Anything goes.

In the current build AoE'ers don't really decide how a battle plays out comapred to other MMOs or indeed DAoC.

Tanks are simply what tanks should be. With a few people focusing on a tank, they go down quite quickly. They also have reduced DPS to compensate for their survivability. They can 2H, but this makes them more vulnerable. Add in the collision detection, tanks actually have a place in PvP, rather than either being gimped or just nuked to hell quickly.
If you feel classes should all be nukable in seconds, then WaRs higher (intentional) TTK will probably not sit well with you.

Agreed WoW is good, but generally good in regards to PvE. It's too long in the tooth to reinvent it's niche PvP now. This is why I'm looking forward to WaR.

Main gripe of warhammer for me is combat feels distant and non involving, in warcraft you could feel that mortal strike landing and one shoting some newb, just felt really responsive.

Combat in warhammer feels non involving, just spamming abilitys and they dont seem to make a difference!

Before BG's we had world pvp in wow, we had 40+ plus fighting to and fro from southershore to tarren mill. How is that not the same as you stated above?

I think this will put some people off tbh. In beta they tweaked the TTK (time to kill) to be approx 10 seconds in a standard fight. People coming from other games might get frustrated at that as unless you go BW or Sorc - apart from morals, you get very few skills which let you see huge chunks of the enemies health disappear.

In the way it doesnt happen now casue everyone is in a grindfest arena or BG

World PvP in wow regularly brought the server down, and such play is long in the past. Also, such play was absolutely pointless and had no effect on your char or your side. It was mindless back-forth zerg which changed nothing at all.
