Phoning is no problem though, its all automated unless you're activating for the 10th time or something. It is generally recommended to not activate straight away, after all you do get 30 days to do drivers, updates etc.

Well, make sure you don't install certain games either. That will invalidate Vista. Oh, and sleeping facing south also makes your Vista invalidate. I have heard rumours that having moss growing anywhere on your porch can do the same.

Of course, having a user name as Nvidia and trying to run vista is just asking for trouble. :p

Thx I will try phoning them.

Phoning them is no hassle at all. There's an automated prompt to enter your installation ID, then you'll either get a number read out for you to enter or you'll briefly speak to someone who will ask you whether the software came with your computer or was purchased, and will ask you whether you're using it on more than one computer (your answer should be "no"!) - but these are 5 second questions, and then they'll read out the number.

It is a hassel if you actually have to talk to someone. You can bet yourself there english/accent will be terrible.

Well thx all for your posts I have just phoned them and it was easy and it is activated again but I still think it is stupid that Microsoft is this tight with their new os.
And I do have the OEM vista x64

No you get 3 days, I've had to activate windows over 10 times now and I'm getting pretty p***d off. Especialy as you have to call twice to speak to an operator.

The first time you call they will tell you you are a theif and need to buy a new copy.

The second time in a row you call they will put you through to an operator who will activate you.

It wouldn't be so bad if like xp you had 30 days to settle your system in, rather then the driver nightmare and buggy mess that is vista. I've had to reinstall more time in the last month then I have in the past year.

Guys,

I think the issue is the fact when you update your bios, it puts a lot of settings back to defaults.

This could i say COULD cause it, spesh if you had for example.

On board audio disabled.
Serial/Paralelle (spelling) ports disabled
USB ports disabled.

When flashing and reverting back to bios defaults these would be enabled.

Vista at a guess would notice these changes an say ang on a second this is all new kit.

Thats my 2p woth lol

Sheesh Vista is that lame? Will have to upgrade eventually but not looking foward to it.

Last time I had to reactivate XP, I got message saying to ring an 0845 number (which didnt work), or a national rate number (which did).

I assume Vista makes you ring (and pay for) a national rate call.. someone should complain to watchdog that anytime there is a minor glitch you have to pay for phonecalls to reactivate the software.

I wonder if microsoft would accept a reverse charges call :P.
