On the road....
Milo , he's weird.

I've had him for a few months now after my sister gave him to me - He's about 2 years old.

Thing is, he's what many people call a housecat, i.e. he won't go out.

Now the thing is, its a nice day and I have my back door & window open.

Milo is currently sat on the doorstep looking outside, I go out, he sits there & meows at me.

I put him out in the garden, he jumps straight back in through the window.

He shows no interest in the great outdoors at all and didn't when my sister owned him either.

I am just wondering why? Any ideas?

He's recently been to the Vet with a hormone problem that according to the Vet is "not helped by him getting little or no sunshine"

I'm sure he'd greatly appreciate the outdoors, I back onto land that must be full of Mice & all things that Cats like.

So how do I change him or, am I stuck with him as is? - I hope not - a typical Male, when he uses his litter tray, his aim is very off the mark!:(

Hi,

have you tried sticking his food bowl outside? It may encourage him to move out :) .

*Edit*
Beaten to it!

Try leaving his food outside when you feed him (if it's a nice day obviously!), my cat will follow his food wherever it goes...

Edit: D'oh beaten to it twice

Feed him outside perhaps (Late X4) - maybe move it a little further from the door each time.

If he's not interested/curious at all and he's happy as he is, then i'd leave him be.

At least you don't have to worry about getting the call that he's been run over. However, just don't sit on him.

Pick him up and walk him round the garden for a few minutes. Do this every day increasing the amount of time you spend outside.

Keep this up for a couple of weeks and hopefully he'll get used to the smells & sounds etc. and feel more comfortable.

At the end of this acclimatization period, say on a weekend when it is nice weather, take him outside and close all the doors so he can't get back in. You sit in the sun for a few hours and see what happens.

Also try what others have been suggesting with the food i.e. move his food closer to the door, then eventually outside for a while.

tried the food idea a while back, he simply plagues you (by rubbing against you whilst meowing in a pathetic manner) until you relent & bring his food back.

My sister used to leave him out a lot, he spent most of his time sat on an upstairs window sill meowing!

Dogs don't bother him at all, he's quite a big Cat who used to live with a Dog :D

At least you don't have to worry about getting the call that he's been run over. However, just don't sit on him.

This is a concern as I live near a road that frequently has roadkill on it.

I don't sit on him, but frequently trip over him and / or stand on him. :o

He could've had a bad experience at some stage in his life that has left him scared of going out?

We found our second cat last year after a builder saw him in the back of his truck in the town centre and was going to kill it. She must've only been ~2months maximum at the time but since then she's absolutely **** scared of the bin men and any other sorts of lorries and hides under the quilts when they come down the road.

Lock him out. He'll eventually find a neighbour's garden he loves to **** in and that'll be the end of it.
