Wtf is this?

It's normal on the ZX line, which by the way are some of the best PSUs out there - not a cowboyish turd
They're also present on some other manufacturer's PSUs, it's just that on the ZX they're more annoying as they make the already short cables very inflexible in the areas they most need to be bendy.
As above, pre-braided cables are a cheap solution, but if you need a PSU that looks perfect without extensions I'd suggest doing some research into what the cables are like before buying one.

I, for one, was quite pleased when I found them on my OCZ ZX PSU. It showed an attention to detail and performance that I find reassuring.

As for why, well I have seen noise reduction and smoothed flow on higher end AV cables, so why not here?

I just assumed they were on the ATX cables cause I have heard that modular cables are not as stable as hardwired ones, and the ATX cable on this PSU is modular, which I found a bit strange since you can hardly use the PSU without it.

Ive got a ZX 1000W and i dont have anything like thst on mine, unless its under the braiding.

Its under the heatshrink on the MoBo side of the cable (this is mine btw). If it was on the PSU side I would be happy but its on the wrong side of the cable for management sake.

I think what I am going to have to do is get some pre-braided cable, remove the sleeving from the ones I want in yellow and resleeve them.

Then its a case of hiding as much as possible.

You sometimes see capacitors on pico-PSU but this is the first time I've seen them actually mounted on the connector itself. It's usually easier to fIt then in the power supply unit itself but maybe they didn't have room or wanted the smoothing to occur after the voltage drop of the modular connectors and cables.

Edit: It's probably because the PSU uses bus bars internally rather than wiring and it's easier to have the capacitors remotely than stuck on some larger slabs of metal.

Purple wiring too rather than red. I wonder if someone at Great Wall is colour blind or something and bought in a shed load of purple cable thinking it was red.
