WTF! Live renewal..

My 12 months sub expired today and I recieved an email this morning...

"This mail is confirmation that you have successfully renewed your subscription to Xbox Live 12 mo. Gold Membership. This renewal goes into effect on 24 January 2007. Here is a description of the service: "

WHAT! I thought you had the choice for renewing it yourself, I bought a sub for £25, I do not want £40 going out of my account.

Can I do anything?

It auto renews from credit card details unless you enter a pre-paid code before the renewal date. Why did you not enter the code you got, it adds to the existing subscription?

Just like most stuff, it will auto-renew unless you intervene. Not really MS's fault I'm afraid.

looking back ( ive got email that far back lol ) , when i took out my free month subscription i did get an email advising me ththat my free month was about to end a few days before it happened . i would have thought the same would apply to 12 month membership

I always thought it was rather dishonest of them to force you to call up to cancel the subscription. That's why I always use pre paid cards only.

Just sell the code on again for £25 or add it again so your sub will then run till 2009.

I cancelled my credit card.. and even after 3 months i still have a Gold account.. i think there system has screwed up but im happy

I used a pre paid card for 12 months of live but i have my Debit card details on my xbox from buying points, will mine auto subscribe?

The con was that with the old xbox subs you would be sat there with your live starter kit eager to get online. Then dispite having a pre paid card for 12months subscription you still had to enter a credit card number :mad:

I like thousands of others used my mums credit card number saying "don't worry, it won't take any money out" then 12 months down the line bang £40 thank-you-please :mad:

Oh and you couldn't cancel the card on there and change your payment to pre-paid cards only :rolleyes:

Crap system imo.

I've cancelled my credit card now, I suspect I won't avoid the £39.99 going out but will hopefully stop further experiences like this.

I take it once you have cancelled your CC card any transactions on that card will bounce?

Yes, no payments will be taken from a cancelled card.

No. You didn't use the card for subscribing therefore they cannot renew that subscription.

If you pick up the phone and tell them you didn't want an auto-renewal because you have a pre-paid card they will just issue a refund with no fuss.

Friend of mine made a few live accounts for some bizarre reason and has never had a problem sorting out the mess that left behind
