Stumbled across a real strange one this evening chaps.

Bought the Bioshock 4 pack with my paypal this morning. Three of the guys on the forums paid me throughout the day and upon arriving home i thought id transfer the money back into my bank account.

Oh no, that's too much to ask.

Out of no where, PayPal limit my account, no reason is given. To release my account they are asking me to provide proof of posting on 4 items. Sounds easy enough but heres the catch.

Every item is something I've bought, not sold !?

Confused.

Would be doubly weird if it were related to the Bioshock 4-pack, being a digital product proof of postage isn't really nevessary. Did they not gift you the money? I've never had any problems with that, though it comes with commission.

I've held a paypal account for 10+ years, and use them weekly.

But last week, they've begun to limit my account to help "security measures", and means I can't use my primary funding source (bank) to purchase things - only echeques!

To be fair, a phone call did sort it out. But still weird.

General lol @ some of the replies on here.

Horror stories? Hmmmm you never hear the stories when things go smooth, like 99.9% of the time do you!!?!?!

And asking someone to post a cheque as it is safer is plain right ridiculous! :D

Just call them, they will sort it.

How is it? It's a prefered method of choice and making sure you get the cheque before sending the package is sensible if you're doing it via the cheque way. No-one stated PayPal doesn't run smoothly, we just stated PayPal didn't work for us and that could be a possible issue regarding the Bioshock 4 pack and 99.9% of the time is an over-estimate regarding the problems that have occured for people on this forum and elsewhere.

There is just as much cheque fraud, if not more tbh!

Ive had around £6000 through a business paypal account with no issues in the last few months. Though I have heard of frozen balances, retained amounts etc. This is normal on merchant and card processing accounts but not on Paypal. (Although it is starting to become more common)

I agree with the content, but not the tone of this comment ;)

I have been using PayPal for 7 or so years, both sending and receiving money, and have never had any issues.

Sorry about the tone, it is far too early for me so apologies. :)

One of the biggest types of banking fraud is cheque fraud. I have worked in the business, so am pretty clued up on this.

My mother refuses to buy anything online and also refuses to use internet banking. She is still a believer in cheques and will have non of it when I tell her that carrying round a cheque book and cheque guarantee card in your purse is utter madness!

Online shopping / payments > anything else.

*edit*

Plus, cheques can be legally returned up to 6 months after clearance if they are found to be fraudulent.

Paypal's success rate is absolutely nowhere near 99.9%.

And it's not just the fact that it's so easy to have problems. It's the fact that if you do, Paypal just take the easiest option that saves them the least hassle/money and close the dispute. No common sense needed.

Yeah it makes me laugh as well. I sold something on Ebay to a bloke and he refused to pay via paypal as quote "I don't trust the internet, you will be able so see all my details". Despite me assuring him, he insisted on sending me a cheque which then had his bank name, branch location, sort code, account number and a nice sample of his signature.

And he thought that was safer than paypal?????:D

Well I have phoned them and all they said was;

"Sir, our system isnt as clever as the human mind and we will review it within 24 hours"

Never mind, hopefully I'll be able to get my money out by the end of the day.
