Wtf?

Legally you don't need to fill in any form or inform the licensing authority you are not using it to receive.

There are loads of comments on the web where people have continued to be bombarded with letters after years of phone calls and angry correspondence. So don't expect it to be the end of it.

recently got one of these letters because I bought a new tv in my name and license is in wifes - shouldn't take a genius to figure that one out but I guess it keeps some retard in a job.

Exactly the same situation happened to us. Didn't stop them from sending some one round to our door after we ignored their letters. Only when I refused him entry to our property did he spot there was a license registered to my address but in the name of Mrs Fifer :p

To be honest, I wouldnt want to pay for a license for the crap they put on the BBC channels. Really? I want to give my money so they can have idiots like Johnathan Ross talk a load of rubbish?

I rather donate the money to some charity every now and again then give my money to people like them. Again theres loads of stories how the BBC actually has TOO much money which they splash out on crap, and personal things. Its in the news...

Because tall the money raised through the TV license is given to the BBC? Read up on it before you start slandering.

Let me know where the awesome tv license money goes to... I like to see where the money goes, since "TV License" part was a dead cert give away it goes towards TV, unless people thats been pay for a license doesnt know where their money is going.

Also, the money is NOT "raised", its not a charity, people PAY for it, they dont donate the money to the TV License company.

I apologise for putting raised. But it's isn't the just the BBC that get the money. CHannel 4 and Five get some, and so does ITV, and I think, BSkyB.

From what I know ITV, CH4 and all the other channels that shows commercials and adverts do not profit from the TV License, they get their money from adverts just how adverts on Google work.

The TV License website states the British Broadcasting Channel and not any other channel. BBC has been scrutinized by the public before and recently that they showed some form of advertising on their shows/channels "unintentionally" even though it was a full on promotion type thing they had going on. The article is on the web.

Also from the TV License website.

We reserve the right to cancel or revoke a licence, or modify its conditions by publishing a notice. This notice may be published on the BBC's website or in other national communications.

If other channels was to profit from it, it would have been stated in that paragraph and not just the BBC. Also, when they say "National Communications" Im pretty certain they mean Radio shows ie, Radio 1, 2, 3 and so on.

I dont get what everyones problem with the TV license enforcement is. If you get multiple letters and people calling at your door let them in ffs to prove you dont have means of receiving broadcasts, then the letters and calls will stop. All you "i know my rights" people are just making life more difficult for yourselves. How else are they meant to check?

You don't get it.

I have no TV, not had one for years, TV does not interest me in the least, why am I hounded constantly by them for NOT having something?

It's like you not being into Fishing for example, and you getting constantly harassed for not having a Fishing Licence.

But it's only TVLicensing that seem to be legally allowed to harass members of the Public in the UK who choose not to have something. This is the main issue I have with this Organisation, it is a disgrace that they are allowed to do this.

But when you consider 90%+ of the homes in the uk have a tv of some description, and it is illegal not to have a TV license if you require one, surely they are allowed to check? Its like the DVLA and car tax, you will be on their database as a car owner so they are entitled to investigate untaxed cars registered under your name.

You owned a TV at some point and will therefore be on the TV licensing database, however you are not paying a license fee. Can you give them proof you dont have a TV or means of receiving TV signal without letting them check for themselves? No.

I no longer have any means of receiving live tv, and havent had a single letter since letting the guy in to confirm almost a year ago.

Now, if DVLA sent letters threatening you every Month, and even visited everyone who doesn't even own a Car, just to check up, that would be ridiculous no? And would it be Legally allowed? People would be up in arms about it.

That's exactly what TVLicensing do!
