WWIIO: Battleground Europe

I assume it's only actual CC's that are accepted as payments?

If so, I can't sign up. Only have a debit card. :(

I thought they accepted debit cards, might just be american ones. Not sure about that. Try and find a friend who doesn't mind letting you use their CC. I'm using my gfs atm.

Don't worry about giving CC details, they've never had an privacy issues with them and they are by far the closest dev team to the community I've ever come across. They spend more time browsing the forums then making the game which might explain why it's so far behind the times graphically ;)

Glad to see so many people are coming in. To those that are trying out the trial account I can meet you in game on the allied side to give you a quick walk through of the basics and introduce you to a good attack/defend mission and if we're lucky a para drop or two. Any interested in flying I can give some tips on that too afterwards.

If you're around this evening I should be around, just give me a time and I'll meet you on there. In game message my by typing:

.m Darg <message> into the message bar. Just hit enter to activate it.

This is a fine flight sim/tank sim/inf shooter all combined into a functioning world with real time strategic decisions and logistics forming a living battlefield.

Get over the initial graphics complaints and regular deaths and feel the immersion. I've sat in locations and simply watched battles unfold before me. From probe to skirmish to all out slogging match. Some key /epic battles can last hours and you can log on again the next day and they can still rage.

This sums it up better then I ever could! What is your name on the allied side? I'll have a look out for you next time I'm on. Wouldn't mind some multicrew action, 3 in a tank? :D

Just found this entry in wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornered_Rat_Software

Which contains this screenshot showing the improvement in graphics between '01 and '06. They've improved even more since then especially in the smoke/fire special effects area.

Well, I managed to shoot someone.

Am I right in saying you have to spawn with vehicles, and that you can't just go in them when I'm an infantry man?

Also, when I'm killed, I have to Esc out and re join that way?

Well done, takes some people a few days to get a kill :)

And yes and yes to your questions. Are you axis or allied?

Tiger is the best tank in the game but they only get 3 or 4 per division last i checked. We get much more shermans, at <1.5km a sherman can take out a tiger with a well placed shot.

At the start of the game allied armour kicks ass :)

And you can go all the way to factories if you want but there's radar, enemy fighter patrols and you only have 8 bombs so you wont make a massive impact.. but then again every percentage counts :)

Allies have a good solider playerbase with a very good group of leading officers. Not saying that axis sucks but..

they're full of noobs >.>

At first you might want to play a couple days axis and a couple days allied, see which group of people you prefer.

@ funk:

No bailing yet. It's planned, but it's around the middle of a long list. For now you are your vehicle, you're tied to it for as long as that spawn. You can download keyboard/mouse keymappers that are excellent. Just search the barracks forum for "Sgt Spoons keymapper"

@Longbow:

You have to be at the right village :)
The towns whose names have flashing red boxes around them on the map are the ones with Attack Orders on them, you can cap the depots in those towns. Best thing to do for now is look for active missions. Ask around on side and someone will direct you to a good town fight.

@neo:

Squads are permenant but you can switch whenever you want between them. I'll be on again this evening, ill post here when i go on again.

Holy ****, I haven't bothered with this game since 2004 or so, I ordered it from the US when it first came out in 2001, was so excited at the concept but didn't really like driving somewhere for 30 minutes etc, nice to see they've added so much. Those shots of the ship (presumably player controlled) loading tanks (player controlled) are out of this world, what other game could you see that in?

Exactly :)

I'm not sure if they had forward bases or mobile spawn points in '04 but the nearest battle is never more then a 5 minute drive away and there's almost always msps near to town so it's a lot easier to get into battles then it was.

Is there any way to report a player that keeps hassling me? His name is "Sixpence" and as im new and can get lost in what im supposed to do some times, he thinks im a second account spying for the Axis lol  He is quite a high rank so he seems to be well known and he's making my play time a mysery by messaging me all the time and telling other people to ignore me! :(

I'll get in touch with him. What's your ingame name?

EDIT: Okay I sent him a pm asking him to stop, if I see him in game I'll tell him there too.

no problem mate. If you're able to get on now I'll come on and give you a quick training session and get you into a good fight :)

It gets you like that Yozz. Yea close quarters lag is quite bad. When you get more experienced at finding the right fights you'll be able to hop back and forward between the hotspots as they cool down or heat up.

I should think we'll see more MMOFP shooters but I'm not sure we'll see another MMOLFP simulation, which is what this is, at least not for a very long time.

Well hopefully battleground won't be going away anytime soon. All they need is a player base boost to get a bit of extra income and they can start the serious work that's needed on the game. With unity 2 coming by the end of the year the better graphics will hopefully bring a lot of new players next year.

Got a 7 kill streak just now! Led in a bush with my rifle and just waited for ei to just keep on running into a certain ditch lol :D

I still remember my first sortie like that. Absolutely awesome feeling. I remember hunting EI behind their main assault on a FB, I was up on a big hill watching them come, I'd dart from bush to bush, get within 50m and then pick them off before running back to a good cover spot. Went on for an hour before the attack ended and I ran back (15min run) to RTB.
