X-Factor 2012

Only chavs watch that fixed dross! :p

Just about every uni student I knew were interested in it too.

Even funnier is the following conversation:

'One of the girls on my music modules is a fantastic singer'.
'Yea right, if she's so good then why doesn't she go on the X factor?'

Like WTH, how did you even get into university?

Oh another:

'Would you like to come watch the Universities choir and orchestra performance?'
'Maybe, what kind of music is it?'

Erm, choir and orchestra? .... Herp derp! And no one I knew ended up attending, they would think that classical music is gay, but they love watching X factor and probably even Rylan? I don't even.

So much vitriol directed at XFactor. Yet it is one of the most popular shows on the telly.
If you don't like it, don't watch it.
I enjoy the show. It's light entertainment. Not to be taken seriously. And acts like Rylan provide a good laugh (his exchanges with Gary are funny).

Just dont take this show seriously...it is entertainment and as we saw last week with Louis Walsh, they create drama, when there is none. Its a light entertainment show and good one, at that. If there is a better show of its kind, then by all means tell us...

Can't argue with that.

I think that has always been my issue with this particular show. Make no mistake, there's been some damn good singers through the years who I still enjoy watching on YouTube ever so often, but it's the fake melodrama that completely insults my intelligence and turns me off from watching it. If they could just stop with this fake childish nonsense and forced upon 'drama' which is totally overproduced and terribly directed by now, I'd happily watch the show again. In fact, I quite enjoyed the original Pop Idols series before bad singers and clowns were imported to fake up the audition stages.

In X-Factor's defence, I don't agree with the sentiment of those who hate the show that the singers are crap. Nonsense are they. You don't get through to the live shows unless you can carry a tune. I still remember people such as Hayley Evetts from the original Pop Idol 10 years ago. She never made it as a singer, but no doubt she had the talent. Certainly impressed me enough to remember her. Or the mixed race guy with the big Afro a few years ago. Quality singers.

But for heaven's sake, enough with the sideshows already and let it be about the music without trying to sell ridiculous melodrama .

The majority of the tv audience is made up of kids and families. As said, I don't think you should take the show so seriously. If you find it insults your intelligence watch an OU episode instead.

Indeed. If the show became "all about the music" and about "true" artists, without the sexed up melodrama, the ratings would decline.

Producers are paid big money to create the melodrama and earn the high ratings. Every year, they try out-do what they did the previous year. And if the producers do not deliver the goods, they'll simply be replaced.

I was watching the previews for last weekend's show, where they had Gary Barlow walking through a corridor saying "get that camera out of my face". Now, in real life, I don't think he has ever used those words. But, for the sake of the show, to create the fake melodrama, they created that snippet.

Personally, I like it and as I said earlier, if anybody knows of a similar thing, only better, I'll gladly check it out.

Dude, the sob stories in both UK and USA versions are similar. But in any case, the sob stories do get boring. It makes me wonder that if you don't have a sob story, if you can can make it on the show.

I do watch the USA version, though this year, I can't help feel that the UK version is serving up better talent. That girl Ella is pretty damn good. And the best thing is that she delivers without needing to resort to tears.

I saw Cher Lloyd on the Ellen show a few days ago - so she is making a serious attempt at cracking the US. The winner of the show, in Cher's year, was Matt Cardle and I have no idea what he is doing, after being dropped by his record company. Rebecca Ferguson was also in Matt Cardle's year and even she was launching a new album (she was on xfactor last Sunday). One Direction are doing great in the UK and in the USA. This is solid proof that the best singer doesnt necessarily "make it" in the real world, even if they do win the show.

That's because the music industry isn't about music any more. :(

The music industry hasn't been about purely music in generations. The 60's are often refered to as a golden age of pop music but there was just as much style over substance rubish floating around back then as there is now it just wasn't rammed down peoples throats 24/7 by the big media companies.
