X-Fi Stability

I have the fatal1ty version and for the most part it is stable, but it does conflict with some software, ventrillo and teamspeak are 2 examples, and it wasn't just me, another person in my clan had a different problem with an X-fi and those voice programs. It also seems to hate the Xbox360 optical output of some games as it's crackle city as though the 360 is sending out too much volume.

It is definitely the most stable creative card I have ever had :D

Hi Firegod sorry didnt see your reply til now m8y.

To answer your questions Ive tried installing on two different computers. One an Asus A8V-E deluxe (flashed to latest bios 1012) the computer is overclocked (amd 4000+ @ 2.7ghz) but I have the pci and pcie slots all locked in bios. Ive tried it in both PCI slots middle and bottom (cant use top cause of X1900 GT IceQ cooler unit) with the same result .. lockups on installing always at 70% as well. Second system I tried is a Gigabyte DS3 clean install of windows xp pro with sp2. this would also lockup when installing the drivers and actaully ended up powering down and continually rebooting until I removed the card .. makes no diff. if I use the supplied CD driver or the webdrivers same result. On both systems I disabled onboard and even tried uninstalling AC97 drivers. I left the card back to the shop it was purchased (NOT OCuk) for testing and turns out the test computer was blue screening its little heart out. Computer Tech guy has to consult with other technicians and Im calling on Sat for a refund or card return. Today I also recieved an email from Creative Tech help ... they want me to RMA it which I will do if I dont get a refund as in this case it does appear to be a faulty card. Oh and the computer tech guy also mentioned that the Driver CD that came with it was bad ... he couldnt even copy it to harddrive without a constant fault. Thanks again for your help m8.

Hi mate, well I hope you get it sorted, that does sound like a b0rked card, completely. :( Unlucky mate. It is a great card when it works trust me! lol. :p

well after much decoding of the various xfi's out there, i went for the OEM music one (of the original three launch products). And apart from openal, and creative loading more dll's than the OS does :p, so far no problems.

any guides as to wtf all this creative stuff does? and do I really really need it?

Called down at shop today .... still no word as there waiting on a NEW Cd driver disk ... has to be tried with this and NOT any downloads even from Creative website. Computer shop guy even told me he will have to reinstall Win XP on the test computer as the last attempt at installing X-Fi card on it totally wrecked the setup and it wont boot properly now. Yes Im laughing but then so the guy in the shop he knows the card is borked but he has to go by his bosses rules (once again this NOT OCuk were talking about!) just as well their local as this means another trip down on Monday. Once again people I'll let you know the outcome thanks for hanging in there with me.

Rock solid. Been using it for....must be coming up to a year now, never had a problem with it. :)

yup

had my music since last christmas, the original drivers weren't the best, but the new ones are very good, and the sound is just -wow :)

the only problem i have with it (confirmed driver issue by creative) is that if you connect a coax cable to the flexijack and select 'Digital IO' in the sound control panel, you have to unselect+reselect it after a restart, i just use sleep mode 90% of the time so its no biggie..

Not really, if you type "msconfig" into the Start > Run box, and then select the "Startup" Tab, any of the Creative stuff under there can be un-selected and it will still run fine. If you run MediaSource as the player, then it does have x3 Services which run in the background which are needed whilst it's being used.

X-Fi and M-Audio Rev 5.1 were tested for music quality, the M-Audio came out tops. :p

Last Update on my problem Firegod (sorry to hijack this thread)

New driver CD arrived and when the test computer wouldnt even post/bootup with X-Fi card inserted and after a fresh install on Windows it was declared that the card is faulty and I recieved a full refund ... would have I taken a replacement ... well lucky for me I didnt have to make that choice as there was none in stock.

My Fatal1ty is crap, 50% of the time XP doesn't even recognise the card and when it does I end up getting so much popping and crackling that I end up having to reboot constantly to fix it. I think the non-recognition of it is down to the motherboard as it never used to happen on others but the crackling has never gone away no matter what drivers I use.
