X-Men: First Class

I thought it could have been better, felt a little disjointed and rushed in places, felt the setting could have been different or could have played a much smaller role.

Still thought it was good, enjoyed it and performances and effects were brilliant.

Will I enjoy it if I don't particularly care about the X-Men movies and have never read the comics? I do like special effects and explosions, and do know slightly whats going on from the movies.

First off I am a real Marvel fan, although I have never been that into the X-Men. So now I have to say I didn't particularly like this movie at all.

It started well.... I wasn't expecting them to stick to any core Marvel story or continuity.
It is okay losing continuity as long as they don't rape the characters and they didn't really change the characters in fact the problem was they didn't do anything with the characters at all.

The whole story was just a poor choice and was far to much to swallow, the idiocy of the two superpowers was just awful, all they seemed to do was derp and make huge decisions based on fast fragmented scenes. Were going to war, were calling it off and all based on two generals decisions....It was just shallow and really only served as a poor backdrop.

It failed to cover a long time period the whole recruitment montage was tacky. it just felt like they started early to cover the recruitment of the X-men, but then failed to develop the characters. All they did was announce their superpowers and then showed montages of them developing them and they were on their way. The bit where they are all picking names felt AWFUL, just awful.

The bad guys were just bad, I mean what was motivating Azazel and White Queen. my GF didnt even know who was who by the end of the movie, it just sort of assumed and they just got panned at every possible battle with the X-men

As a Marvel fan it doesn't hurt to watch this like Wolverine: Origins, but your not missing anything if you don't see it. It is just another superhero movie using the Marvel franchise. Compare this to Hulk, Ironman or even the first X-Men film. it just doesn't wow.
For a non marvel fan, I really wouldn't bother watching this movie.

I saw it yesterday. I thought it was pretty good, though I think they could have left some of the events for a possible followup movie. Like the whole Erik becoming evil magneto and Mystique going off with him. The ending was a bit rushed.

MAJOR SPOILERS

Casting was good. Jennifer Lawrence (Raven/Mystique) was hot. Michael Fassbender (Magneto) and James McAvoy put in strong performances, as did the legend Kevin Bacon.

The First Class X-Men however were crap because most had Mutant abilities that were pretty much identical to X-Men we have already seen previously. OK some of this can be attributed to the fact that many of the characters are parents of the more well known ones but Riptide is a male version of Storm without the lightning. The girl with fairy wings was more interesting and useful as a dancer. Darwin the only Black character is of course the first to die . Ginger (Ron Weasley) Banshee was laughable.

The special effects were pretty low budget and at times laughable. E.g. Russian soldiers being manipulated by Xavier and the MagNEtO Matrix climax ripoff. I did love the way he dealt with Shaw though.

It was better than The Last Stand but not by much.

I would summarise my overall opinion of this movie by the quote from Wolverine's cameo ;).

a few friends and family were going to this so i tagged along. wasnt expecting much and didnt get much out of it

it did feel rushed and some of the xmen were pants. kevin bacon and magneto were good though. and Raven

What was the cameo in Thor?

he didnt say Cameo, but Thor did have Hawkeye in it (the guy with the bow in the crane).

It also had a few other characters and pretty much hinted that the Avengers would be about the Cosmic Cube (perhaps the infinity gauntlet too).

It is for this reason that the big bad guy in the Avengers is thought to be non other than Thanos.

pretty poor, boring, lacked action imo, one of those films where you need to have abit of background knowledge on the characters to understand it properly.

^^ surely 99% of people in the world know at least something about xmen? Given tha it's been part of pop culture for decades now.

Anyhow....just got back from seeing this, great movie nice passing, fab actors in it both male and female. Script for once was half decent well up there with the first iron man, and whilst is easy to pick at the origins of these characters such as Emma frost for example [her story was just weird given her status in marvel] it was a good first movie and sets the scene well form the next 2.

I came out of the movie thinking it was "ok", not great. But after about 10 minutes thinking about it I upgraded it to really good. :)

I loved both cameo's aswell. :D

I agree, but with no cyclops, wolverine, storm etc, I wouldnt really say its for the more younger audience like the previous ones.

Saw it last night and thought it was pretty good, cheesy in places as you'd expect but regardless it was far better than The Last Stand or Wolverine. Fassbender made a good Magneto though I'm not sure why he started sounding a bit Scottish towards the end of the film

Flat as a pancake, but does everything you want to see.

The modern formular thats become the defecto, get the gang, dramatic cinematics, racing musical score with a flat story that not even trying to be clever.

Enjoyed the cast and characters, the bonus being aside from kinda knowing who a few of the xmen/mutants were, i knew nothing about them... the best way to experience all these marvel films imo.

Young xaiver came across all warm and nice. A person playing the reasoning role allways sits well with me, it fleshes out the characters bringing a connection like them or not.

follows the formular, but it's as soild as a marvel film gets, there's nothing disapointing about it... it's not designed to be.

Just hope michael bays been watching, the standard which xmen presents is what works today, not what he was doing 10/15 years ago. I could realy do with a transformers 3 droping the ball and doing with what i saw today.

7.5 on merit for the film, bump it 8.5 if the cast and acting is to your taste, you like um, you'll take a heck of a lot more from the film.

Just back and i really liked it, Some dodgey acting from mystique and the beast but magneto was pure bad ass great performance. Was a little cheesy in spots but a solid 8/10 from me. Encouring after the rubbish that was the Wolverine Origins film
