x1900 question

CCC - Catalyst Control Centre

at least it's something like that anyway :p

edit: the time per frame is pretty much proportional with the GPU core clock as far as I can tell (according to Stanford higher memory clocks have very little effect on the GPU folding performance)
The stock 2d speed for my card is 500MHz and gives around 8mins a frame, at the stock 3d speed of 625MHz I get around 6.5mins a frame

500 x 8 = 4000
625 x 6.5 = 4063

seems like a fairly linear relationship to me anyway
Looks like I need to de-install the ATI CCC / ATI Tools applicaiton then and go with the ATI Tray tools, if I understand all this correctly.

Will let you all know if I blow anything up this evening :D

By the way ... at 6.5 per step, that ~ 600ppd on one card, + the CPU. That's allot crunching power and at 350 dollars a pop and it's certainly more cost effective than a high end processor.

anyone got a link to version .949? i have 940 installed so i guess thats the problem? just googled for 949 version and cant seem to find a link to it, not sure if im being thick or what

Sorry for being pedantic but at 6.5 per step that's actually just a tad over 730PPD

That makes up just over half my current output, with a 2nd card (if the client allowed it) I could turn everything else o** :p
That won't ever happen though I can assure you :D

Thats what the " ~ " symbol is for Uncle Rich, " ~ " = Approximately :p
.

Anyway, did a little remote tweeking, im now at:
Core: 648mhz
Mem: 1062Mhz
Fan: Max
Temp: 52c
VGPU: 1.45v
MVDCC: 2.083v
MVDDQ: 2.080v
VDDCI: 1.379v
Dont know what all that gibberish is, but its not blown up yet.

Completed the first step in 6min 22sec. Second finished at 6min 06sec. Hope the thing doesn't blow up LMAO  and I dont get any EUE's, fingers crossed !!

[EDIT]
PPD Calculations (Therotical):
@ 8.0min per step = 594.00ppd - Dont want to be at this level
@ 6.5min per step = 731.08ppd - Real, Definately sustainable
@ 6.1min per step = 779.02 ppd - Real, but is it sustainable
@ 5.5min per step = 864.00ppd :D Wishful Thinking !!

not a bad bit of clocking, you're nearing 800PPD with that

does that still count as ~600PPD though? :p :D

Incidentally I've found that first frame after the client starts takes a bit longer, should mean that your 6m and a few seconds is more like what you'll get as an average

Does it count... Definately :-)

Will it remain stable, we're going to see. I've got a good 4-5hrs before I get back to the Rig. I'm happy with everything apart from one thing:

THE FAN NOISE is " ~ " 500db !!!!!! Between the 120mm Case Fans, the Monster CPU Cooler and the GPU fan in Hyper-Drive, I can't hear the myself think !!!

Next Upgrade = H2O Cooling Soon !!!!
.

I'm having the same problem with mine, I should really invest in a proper fan controller so I can just knock the 120mm fans down to about 10V to take the edge off - though I fear at that point the whine of the GPU fan may become all the more irritating :o

It's not overly loud but as the machine is in the lounge/living room it can get a bit irritating if you're trying to watch anything on TV with quiet bits in - end up getting deafened when it gets to an action bit or when adverts are on :p

Well, the most I can get out of it ATM this about 5.8mins per step. GPU Core at 700mhz. Having trouble with the overclocking bit, so think I'm going to keep it as is aa the temps are at 58c.

5.8 = ~ 820ppd from the GPU, I can live with that :D

I was reading a few articles of 750-800Mhz on these things, but with very high MEM speeds, which the tools can't seem to produce. All of the overclocking tools I've used wont get up over 1140Mhz.

Maybe I'm just clueless on overclocking (which is more than likely the case LMAO).

Whats the norm for air cooled OC on this card or similar, anyone know ?

I guess maybe that's what they mean by "not supported yet" when it comes to the 1950 - however Stanford have said they don't see the memory speed making much difference at all so you're probably not missing out on much

thanks concorde ive found it now, i could see 945 but i assumed the 1st post would have the most up to date beta in it, found .949 on the 3rd page after i sifted through :)

What is your main rig?

Akasa Eclipse 62
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 @ 3150MHz with Scythe Ninja
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2
HIS ATI Radeon X1900 ICEQ3 SILENT Heatpipe ***Crossfire Edition*** 512MB
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB with Arctic Cooling Accelero X2 Cooler
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
Etc.

She's lovely :D

ok im at a loss, i dont know how to speed up the frames on this computer :( it seems whatever i do has very little effect, i dont know if the rest of the system has an affect, or whether its due to something else but i cant seem to gain anything on ~8mins per frame
the system as it stands now is:
opteron 144 @ 3ghz
1gig ram @ 270mhz
x1900xt 256meg version (if that has any affect?)
- core 1.4volts, @ 690mhz
- mem 2 volts, @ 1750mhz

im using the .949 ATT i got from that thread on guru 3d, speeds set using driver level
ive got the 2 ati system processes disabled, im not sure whether thats needed any more but i left them disabled anyway
i just cant figure out why its going so slow

am i missing something??

help needed :(

That doesn't make any sense - you should be in the low 6mins with that core speed :o

You are remembering to actually apply the clocks aren't you? Not just moving the sliders around :p
The current GPU and Mem speeds displayed at the top of the Overcloking tab are showing the speeds you've selected?

Oh and no the 256MB card should be no slower than the 512MB card with current WUs, the only difference is that you may experience more lag in anything graphical with the 256MB version.

edit: thanks for making me realise that my clocks were set to 2D speeds since the leccy guy came and changed the meter an hour ago

edit2: did you remember to reboot the machine after disabling the services?
