x1950 review

Hi there

That has now changed:-
X1950 XTX 512MB GDDR4 will be £275 - £295 +VAT (In stock 23rd August or earlier)
X1950 XT 256MB GDDR4 will be £210 - £230 +VAT (Arriving late September, price may also come down)
OMFG Gibbo, you're incredible at times. I was already considering the X1950XT @ £275, but now I will probably go for an X1950XT-X instead. Looks like the 7950GX2 is completely out of competition now then, unless you're also planning a big price drop on those and not telling us? ;)

The X1950 XT looks really tempting. Not sure I can wait until late September though as i'm planning to build me new Core2Duo system in the next couple of weeks.

7900GTX seems way overpriced now.

Im in the same boat as you mate. The X1900XT's at just over £200 still seem mighty tempting.

well because it's going to be nearly a year before any directx 10 features are implemented into new games, and by then the first generation of directx 10 cards will be staring to show their age.

Eve Online is gonna be using DX10 features upon release of Vista they say ;)
Few more games that you will want to play will probably be dx10 sooner than you think.

I dont upgrade every 6 months to a year so im holding out for the dx10 cards to show, Eve Online is the perfect reason for me to hold off :)

Anyone whos upgrading from a low end card will get one, an x1950 will run the same DX9 stuff perfectly fine as G80/R600, the only advantage they have is DX10 which is not going to be used for donkeys yet, so if you have an x1800/x1900/x1950 you can miss G80/R600 out and just get a DX10 card when DX10 is used more, and worth having, by which time the G80/R600 will be well old hat as new cards will be out. :)

so we have Crysis and now your saying Eve online that wil have DX10 features, so everyone should rush out for the R600/G80 just because they can run 2 games with DX10 features, still not worth it, just run them in DX9.

The only ppl who will benefit from getting an R600/G80 are those with low end cards, and the willy wavers who can lob them out as they have DX10, anyone with the x1800/x1900/x1950/7900 GTX etc... can miss them out and just get a one when DX10 is used more and worth having, which will be past R600/G80.

im sure many with the x1800xt, x1900 & 7900 range will sell and upgrade with less of a hit, at least that seems to be the trend with any refresh.
i will not though, hopefully. :o

I wont be, my x1800 copes fine, and will do for some time to come, so i would see benefit from the odd game with a few DX10 features, im waiting till its used more then ill get one, which will be well past R600/G80, but you are right there will be ppl buying them regardless, there always is, a lot of ppl got the x1900 when that came out, even though they had x1800's, there was no point as the x1800 is still cutting through everything fine today, but thats how it goes. :)
