Yeah me too, mine isn't clocking too well the computer switches off at 2.2Ghz+ when running Orthos :(

Thats either really unlucky or something is badly wrong. Have you checked the usual suspects like BIOS upgrades, seating of heatsink, general airflow around the case, RAM timings etc.....

Re-flashed the BIOS same thing happens, got the latest one anyway, as for the heatsink upgraded to a Tuniq Tower and followed the instructions on the Arctic Silver website same thing happens.

Airflow is good CPU idles below 32 on Core #0 and 22 on Core #1

As for RAM timings haven't tried that, could loosen them and give it another go running at 2-3-2-5 2.8V at the mo.

Could be my power supply afaik, +5V rail perhaps?

Doubt its the PSU. Thats a good one you got there. Try the RAM timings. Slacken them right off and make sure its 2T and see if you can get the CPU up from there. If it still refuses you have been unlucky with the chip you bought unfortunately.

Depends how far you can overclock the X2.

If it goes to 2.5-2.6ghz then you'll not see any difference in single-threaded software.

But most newer software now takes advantage of two cores. And even if it doesn't, you'll have one core for running XP and one for doing the other stuff.

You should be able to get atleast £20 for your Opty 146, so it's a pretty no-brainer upgrade.

Do the X2 's take more power than my current 144 @2.6 MHz?

I only ask as last time I had trouble with a X2 3800 and DFI told me it was my power supply :(

Still, really tempted though

Are you running the 600w Seasonic in your sig?
If so then DFI are having a laugh, that's PSU's absolutely rock solid and easily capable of your setup and so much more.

I am indeed running the Sesonic.....but its the one from 2005 not the current model and DFI stated that this was the problem....although I was also running a TT Big Typhoon with the X2 3800 at the time.....hmmm

Hi ive got the same psu as u and im running a x2 4200 @3gh with 1.39 volts no problems here ?
:D
id get 1 if i was u !

Temped with one of these, but I don't think I will see a huge gain over my A64 at 2.45 GHz. Plus I'm using the stock HSF, not sure if it would be enough for the X2.

The temptation was to much to resist, I cracked under the strain and pushed the buy button :D

Lol yeah i'm the same, just ordered one to replace my 4000+ sandy. I really dont think i'll notice much performance increase if any at all, but my neighbour said he'd take my sandy for £35 so it's a £5 upgrade!!

Nice one man :) Mine cost 37.50 inc from MM and sold an old 3200+ winnie to cover most of it as 20 quid lol. Currently sitting at 2.2Ghz 1.2v in an almost passive setup :D Does 2Ghz at an amazing 1.075v!

Tis a good price and cant find them cheaper anywhere, if this offer hangs on another week then i might have two (hint hint ;) )
