x2 3800+ dual core optimisers and drivers questions

have you tried running stock? i know bf2 plays havoc with ram.

on a side note, i'm running just the dual core optimizer and i haven't used any m$ hotfix and i have no issue's whatsoever and i play bf2 quite often.

Ive added 2x256mb ram sticks now and it seems to be ok. But now i can only overclock my cpu to just 2.6ghz as the ram is at 346mhz instead of 400mhz. I really want to overclock my cpu but it shall never happen. i have to say bf2 is such a stupid game for ram and such.

Best off selling ** ram and getting 2x 1gb sticks of dual channel ram. Works a treat for me on current setup atm.

Im probally gona leave it as it is at 2.6ghz with the memory at that speed if i need ill just buy another 2x512mb and run it at stock. But first i need a new cooler this cpu is hot its running at 60C on load.

Defo might be cause of the crashes in games then if its getting that high up. Put the volts down perhaps or lower the clock.

Its at stock volts though, plus i reused the therm paste on the bottom of the heatsink so theres barely any left.

What type of paste and did you use a thin layer not a thick layer should be paper thin on cpu only.

Just got one (4200+) installed, and temps so far are idlin low 30's, bf2 ran fine (42).

My supcom performance has doubled

Lol, I just realised that I have neither installed after my format. I've not yet noticed any difference between having and not having the AMD Optimiser installed.

I used a rice blob size then spreeded it out with my finger which was is a plastic glove.

Lol, I just realised that I have neither installed after my format. I've not yet noticed any difference between having and not having the AMD Optimiser installed.

It's necessary to use the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer otherwise some games will have timing issues.

Basically the Windows CPU scheduler does it's thing with the game running on for example CPU0 for a few timeslices and then because CPU0 is busy when the game is due it's next timeslice the CPU scheduler switches the game over to CPU1.

Now because the CPU cores aren't using a syncronised time stamp counter a problem can occur where time appears to go backwards and it's because the CPU scheduler switched the game to the other core and that core's time stamp counter is lower than the value previously reported by the other core.

The Optimizer syncronises the time stamp counter which obviously fixes the problem.

Crude example:

frame 1 on CPU0: time stamp counter = 1000
frame 2 on CPU0: time stamp counter = 1100
frame 3 on CPU0: time stamp counter = 1200
frame 4 on CPU0: time stamp counter = 1300
frame 5 on CPU1: time stamp counter = 1200 (time has gone backwards)

The Optimizer is also useful for other applications that rely on the time stamp counter.
