I've had an X2 3800 for a while now, working perfectly and OCed nicely.

However, a post on here a few days ago reminded me of the AMD X2 patch for download on their website. So, have you installed it for your PC and has it actually done anything for you (apart from the cool'n'quiet rubbish - which I've disabled anyway :)). Should I bother doing this, considering that I don't have any problems as it is?

Thoughts and opinions ...

I have no problems with my X2 so i haven't installed the driver, however if i do ever experience any problems the driver will no doubt be the first place i go to, but unless i do get a problem, i'm leaving it alone.

I might give it a try - I like asking for trouble :)

I recently installed COD2 and experienced jerkiness at my default resolution but put it down to aging graphics (X800 GTO). Might give it a go and see if I see any difference.

Anyone else?

Drivers generally do nice things to your computer so there is probably no harm in installing it. However, as someone has rightly said, if it aint broke dont fix it :D

i installed the amd driver and the windows xp patch and it blue screened my pc everytime i tried to boot, took off the windows patch and its fine again.

some pc's dont like both patches at the same time from whati've read and mines one of them :(

has fixed a few games that i play, i dont have to set affinity anymore :D

I have installed the dual core AMD driver and the windows patch, no problem what so ever. Don't use Cool and Quiet though bit thought AMD driver adds other things, like microcode or something so installed it anyway.

Thanks guys!

I've done it now, with no problems. Haven't noticed any major differences in or out of games tbh. But hey, if its the AMD driver, it will be better than the windows one anyway :) and hopefully, will stop any errors that may have jumped up on me in the future.

I have to install the patch otherwise eg. COD2 runs at 50fps instead of 91fps although it makes no difference with 3dmark.
I install:
WindowsXP-KB896256-v3-x86-ENU.exe (Hotfix)
amdcpu xp32 x2 driver.exe
set in boot.ini /usepmtimer

Had some problems with Flat Out without the AMD dual core patch, just stopped responding loading the level at 100% (but not changing into car view) installed AMD driver and went worked.

see, right there. that's where all my troubles start too.

i've not had cause to give this patch a run yet, but i know it's only a matter of time before i install it anyway, cos i just can't leave my machine alone when it's healthy.

:)
