Hi all,

I have a P35C-DS3R gigabyte motherboard 4gig mem 5850...

When trying to install my OS the cdrom spins up and wont do anything stuck on the BIOS screen when AHCI mode is enabled.

If I disable the mode the boot from CD runs and I can install.

Any ideas what is happening???????

I want AHCI and to run my X25-M

Ta

Maybe try a newer bios, i have a similiar board to you P35C-DS3L and i had no issues with the same drive also at that screen, takes maybe 10 seconds then posts my X25-M then my other 2 drives, i did on first install though unplug my other drives as advised in the SSD thread.

I will give some advice when you get it working and windows on DON'T install the intel inf drivers it changes the AHCI driver from standard to intel version, i did that and had error after error i had to reformat and everything was ok.

I have the newest bios...

it detects the hard drive and cd drive in the bios....

the dvdrom spins up....

the nothing....

if i remove AHCI the cdrom spins up and then starts installing....

Any ideas? this is quite annoying :(

When you say remove all your other drives did you also remove your dvdrom~?

No i just unplugged my other sata hard drives, don't really know what to suggest as all i did was put AHCI mode in the bios which is what you have done, all i did was put the ssd drive in the first sata port so it was coming up first.

I am installing from a sata dvd/r also not sure if that make any difference.

Install in IDE mode, it could be your DVD drive doesn't like AHCI, and then do the registry tweak to load the AHCI drivers and then change the BIOS over.

Or you could try creating a bootable USB to install from instead.
