So just got myself a X360 controller as I'm really into racing sim atm, however I couldn't get the virbration to work at all in every game I tried! There's a special XBCD driver which claims to enable rumble support but I couldn't get that driver to work - everytime I plug it in WinXP automatically installs the official x360 controller driver for windows.

I'm sure there are many others using the same controller on PC so am just wondering if it's possible at all to get vibration working? I really prefer the feel of this gamepad but just can't get the vibration working! I mean even my old PS2 controller with cheapo £4 PC adapter supports vibration!

iv got no idea bout pads on pc's but iv just had a look for you and found this:

No idea if it will help or what it does for that matter but it looked interesting.

Let me know how the pad goes tho on pc, im thinking about getting one for odd games alltho for sims i have a G25 steering wheel, but on some arcade games id like a pad for them as the arcade games arent realistic and arent made for wheels :)

I only have this for Vista. Installed the CD that came with the card then ran the update driver software. Everything has been working perfectly in it. Which games are you trying?

I've tried:

Colin McRae Dirt (Vibration worked perfectly)
Test Drive Unlimited (Vibration worked perfectly)
Gears Of War (Vibration worked perfectly)

Must admit this is the best gaming pad I've ever used!

Thanks will try the driver from your link, this was the driver I was looking at.

*EDIT* OK this driver installed but still not getting any vibration in the above 2 games I've tried, maybe it only works in Vista, will try other games.

Hmm i have the Xbox 360 controller and have used it on a few games: Bioshock, Sega rally and its worked well!

I read a thread somewhere on here and apparently Xpadder2007 is good for configuring the pad? i aint used it myself yet tho

:)

i use it all the time, vibration support on the normal ms drivers...

so not sure wether its down to drivers or not.

but ive always had a swift easy install and vibration on automatically

I was under the impression this pad had no vibration support in Windows?

All the Games for Windows titles have vibration support by default.

Bioshock, Lost Planet, GoW, Crysis all have Vibration.

if your using a wireless pad there no way to get it to work i dont think, xpadder etc dont do anything for the wireless pad, wired one should work with the standard drivers though.

have you checked for any ingame settings?

The reason most games have no rumble support is because the xbox360 uses a different controller API to the DirectInput one that older games use. The idea behind the new one (XInput) is that every controller that implements it has a much more standardised interface so you don't have to set up the controls every time, and also it's easier to code for.
The older games are basically putting the controller (or at least its driver) into a backward compatibility mode where older DirectInput vibration is ignored.... guess it's done differently in XInput. Although XBCD managed to convert it iirc so I don't know why microsoft didn't. (XBCD understands DirectInput rather than the new XInput one, which is why vibration works on older games with XBCD)

I think it's a Games for Windows requirement that every game has to implement the new XInput support.

TDU doesn't have it iirc (so no rumble), but it's been a while since I've played it.

first versions of xbox pad driver didnt support rumble. some point in the year they were updated and do now support rumble. last time i used my pad though i dont think the drivers saw the triggers as seperate entities so often didnt work how i wanted them games.

Yeh they are one axis, possibly the worst thing about XInput..

more here:

edit: although I'm not sure about the accuracy of the article - I'm sure there must be 5 axes on a 360 controller if you include one for the triggers.

XBCD drivers work wonders on the X360 pad

the only games that allow the 360 pad to vibrate on the sub par default drivers are the ones that have full 360pad support, sega rally and bioshock are examples of this

i use XBCD on LFS and it works fine, full vib support and split axis on the triggers so i can use both accel and brake simultaneously if the need arises

I can't get rumble to work in any games on my XB360 for Windows controller apart from the Crysis demo. I run XP64 so maybe that has something to do with it? Anyway, bored of driving games now so not a big deal...
