X360 with BR drive built in available 3rd quarter?

You could be a cynic and think to yourself well one of the biggest game releases for the PS3 and 360 is here, and the biggest one for the PS3 is next month, maybe we could spread some FUD to possibly put off potential PS3/BD player buyers or 360 buyers for that, waiting on a BD version. Or it could be a good way to generate hits to said sites by posting this news then the same day post the "its not happening" reply by Microsoft. It may well happen, will it make a difference ? I doubt it, and why would Microsoft invest in this technology now when all they're really interested in is digital downloads for movies/ TV content?

This is in connection with the Lite-on announcement on April the 1st ref: cited as manufacturer of drive.

denied by M$, & is FUD

I don't think it'll be in way of an external... Just an internal that is backward compatible with all previous catalogue of games... Replacing an existing SKU, most probably the Elite...

So it'll probably be as noisy as the drive will need to spin up to the high speed needed as all games will be DVD..

This is a strategy to deter the future PS3 buyers who would choose the ps3 over the 360 cos it has a bluray player.

In reality they are shooting themselves in the same foot that Sega did.. Obviously I haven't got a crystal ball but if we look at history.. (SegaCD anyone) then we can all predict how this story will end..

That's one of the most idiotic links I've seen on this forum.

Literally all this drive will be used for is blu ray movies, how does your warped mind relate that to the SegaCD?

WHAT ?

microsoft is making the same fatal move Sega did with the megadrive and all its billy bolt-ons and changes.

Get it right first time and stick to it...

So what are sony doing with their constant revisions?

A simple change like a blu ray player for movies is not akin to sega trying to change their media format and making an expensive add-on to try and boost performance when the public didn't want it.

I have to say I find your opinions quite contrary to my own,

BR/HD-DVD wasn't really available at launch, Sony got away with delaying due to their name, MS had no luxury,

And even then, look at Sony, the PS3 will be getting Play TV, there's a story about Sony bosses looking into External HDD's, etc, sounds like add-on/upgradeability thing is not unique to MS these days..

Anyway it's been proven to be FUD, so is it worth arguing over?

Simple change??? hardly simple is it..

and according to Sega at the time it is what the public wanted, the same way Microsoft are seeing its what the public want now when they purchase a console.. Which is why they are doing it..

In theory it should help but as history has shown it does the complete opposite.

But adding a 'feature' as long as the existing feature set is intact harms no-one.

IF, and it's a very unlikey IF, MS wanted BR playback in the 360, since the BR drives can read DVD's, it doesn't change a thing, just add's BR playback, they could offer it built in the console or as an addon, everyones happy, games still come on DVD, so no-one is left out..

Personally I don't see the harm IF they wanted to..

Perhaps you could explain how you think this is so unnacceptable?

but it is just a simple change like Kreeeee said? it's just a different cd drive that has the ability to play BD's. looking at the current range of 360's i'm fairly sure theres at least 3-4 different types of CD drive that has been introduced since the 360 was released, granted they all do the same thing but they all vary in speed, noise and reliability

if we go by your logic of "get it right the first time" then sony obviously should have made the slim line PStwo to begin with instead of bothering with the original PS2 lol

Well you are right on the 'IF' because 'IF' they do implement the BR they are admitting that they got it wrong first time and the competition got it right and now they are playing catch up.. The 360 already has a battered reputation I feel this will do it more harm than good.. But on the other hand sticking to what they are currently offering isn't winning them any battles either.

I may be wrong, but it sounds like you have severe sour grapes with MS?

What exactly do you mean about getting it wrong? what did they get wrong? They made a decision to launch with DVD, and offer HD-DVD as an add-on when it became available.. they would never have had the option of BR for some time after the PS3, Sony where delayed due to the BR diodes? and then consumed all the supply with the PS3 production for many months..

Are you saying MS should have waited for 6-12 months after the PS3 to see who 'won the war' then waited for the BR diode supply to become available, and then launched the 360?

SegaCD... played SegaCD games. Therefore Sega needed it to sell games. It did not because the games were ASS.

Blu Ray Drive for the 360. Plays Blu-Ray MOVIES, MS don't need to sell Blu-Ray movies because they will get no money from it. They will also hardly get much money from the hardware. Because they are a SOFTWARE company.

So no it is NOTHING like the SegaCD because Sega created a format that it needed to sell.

I made some words in capitals so it gets them in your head a little easier.
