How long are we talking ?

For me on a B650 Tomahawk it takes about 40 seconds from power on to windows login. My old X570 takes about 30 seconds by comparison so doesn't seem too bad.
Similar boot times, my B550 mortar boots at 24s, whereas his 7800x3d is more 40-45s, however changing bios settings sometimes put him into ddr retraining and with 2x 24gb ram its a good wait.

Having just finished a 7800x3d new build for my brother and getting hands on exp (tweaking bios, pbo, ram) the most annoying thing was the long boot up time due to ddr5 training? and imo small fps difference at 1440p.

Its made me think twice about upgrading from am4 to am5, id rather swap out my 5600x to a 5800x3d and use the money saved from mb/ram and put that towards a 7900xtx

300+ for a decent MB alone is bonkers

ASRock B650 LiveMixer. Great motherboard for £200ish

Paid the extra 100 and went with the b650e taichi lite, if your upgrading to future proof then you might as well take pcie x5 gfx and full 40g usb - c/TB, and overall better features (error code display, power/reset/bios buttons)/vrm.

I’ve had my eye out for a 5800x3d for £250 for a while, but it’s not materialised - it’s headed back to £300.

I’m thinking with the demand that’s where we will see it, then the 5700x3d will go at £250 and 5500 at £200.

Hopefully, they come our way this time.

Yeap same for me, was hoping to see them at 230-240, and would loved to have seen the 5600x3d on these shores

Would like to pick up a 5800x3D sooner or later...

However, are they still in production now with AM5 being out for a good while?

If not then I wouldn't expect a price drop anytime soon.

Admittedly, I don't know much about AMDs production cycles!

So AMD definitely looking to increase the life span of their AM4 platform with the announcement of the 5500X3D and 5700X3D

I've not seen any prices yet, but I reckon likely £200-£250 ish maybe.

What are peoples thoughts on these, Is it worth them doing these now, or should they concentrate on AM5.

I have mixed thoughts being on AM4 already (5700X) as they wouldnt give me enough of an improvement in my eyes to go for but I think someone on a 3xxx series might be quite tempted by one of these to stay on platform a bit longer.
It's not really increasing the lifespan, as these parts are less powerful than the already (obsolete) released top AM4 parts (5800x3d, 5950X). Just AMD using up the last of it's stockpiles.

depending on price it could be a good upgrade for someone that is already on am4

Itll be a great upgrade from my 3600. The 5700x3d will cover what I need for a good few years more. I’m not a high refresh gamer, so 60+ fps in triple A games hopefully cover me off for this new slew of ‘next gen’ games

If they do release with good availability, then I'd completely lose interest in waiting for newer APUs, and pick up a lower-end AM4 X3D and a LP GPU to replace the 2400G.

I'm still hoping they will do a 6nm AM4 refresh to keep competing with Intel on cheaper DDR4 builds, a "5800XT3D" with slightly better clocks would be a decently competitive CPU and wouldn't cost much to develop.

Never happening. Think of all the money they'd be throwing away on new motherboard sales. These newer x3d chips are just a way to clear the old junk they have left. :D
I wonder if people outside the US will even see them available.

You're likely right, which means I'll be soon going straight from DDR3 to DDR5...

they're still in production. I don't think the wafers on am4 and am5 are the same so it's no skin off AMDs nose to keep banging them out - it's money for old rope
