I have a new build on a Gigabyte Gaming 5P motherboard X99 Chipset

I need to get into the BIOS so I can change the CPU fan speeds to full...

Everytime I hit the DEL key before boot it goes to a black screen, Ive waited 10 mins but it hangs on a black screen

It boots into windows fine and all is ok for now

It may be a faulty mobo? I hear X99 are common for this issue

is there a fix or any other way i can go in the bios?

ClearCMOS and try.

If you have a PS/2 keyboard try that.

If it has a dualBIOS select switch try the backup BIOS.

If you have any USB devices not needed to function (USB hub, webcam, anything) unplug them.

Interesting...

I'm doing a build that is thus far incomplete.. but I did build most of the components up outside the case to install Windows.

I am using a Gigabyte X99M Gaming 5 and I had the same issue as you...

I could get into the BIOS by pressing F12 for select boot device and then selecting "enter setup" so the keyboard was obviously working, but pressing Del 9 times out of 10 gave a black screen with the gigabyte logo that remained until a hard reboot.

I kind of hoped the issue would go away when I build inside the case but I guess it won't... Any other ideas? I tried resetting CMOS.

this is a nightmare, gigabyte x99 motherboards have a massive issue regarding black screens on bios, I disabled all usb dives and usb key board, attached a ps2 keyboard, still a no go, disabled all my sata drives apart from the SSD where the operating system is installed, now it wont boot up at all, complete black screen all the way, also unable to boot from cd drive so I cant re-install the operating system or repair windows, all I get is a black screen.

Ive only had this mobo for 3 days, and all I wanted to do is change a few fan settings ect

Im thinking I could do without the bios but if I need to get into it in future im bummed, I think im gonna return it for a Asus one.

I feel you. I've also seen reports of it now and it possibly being to do with NTFS file system drives (i.e. Windows). I formatted my SSD and when I build it again I will install windows from a USB drive.

If I get a lot of problems I may want to RMA it... it seems some boards have this issue some don't.

As an aside, where do I stand regarding RMA with OcUK? I bought the board and 5820k as a bundle at a very good price in early August. Could they replace the board with a working one?

well you get 14 days to return it with no reason and 30 days for immediate refund/replacement due to a a fault,to which this bios issue is a fault, your within ur 30 days, I suggest you rma it and get another mobo

ive already requested my rma authorisation

just to let you know ive updated the bios, easy way where you download the latest bios and save it on a usb stick, name the folder GIGABYTE.bin, insert the usb stick in the white usb port on the back of the pc and start the pc, it should auto detect the bios and update the bios and restart, crap didn't work for me, might do for you??

It's probably your graphic card compatibility, any chance you can test with a spare? Then flash to latest BIOS and try original graphic card again

Seen lots of issues until you flash to latest BIOS to better support GPU so it can display BIOS screens

I was unable to update the bios coz I have not installed the q flash mobo software, hence it does not work, the gpu is 100% working, I was using 60mins ago, im unable to boot into windows due to a black screen, even booting from cd drive loaded with my windows disc does not work, disconnected all hard drives 1 by 1, took the battery out to reset the cmos, no avail, I really have no other choice here, to certain that its mobo related...

Hello all,

I have just been reading the thread, if you keep having issues you can also RMA the boards with us directly if you chose. If you are having issues installing the latest BIOS on your X99 the below should work.

1. Turn off the computer and remove all RAM DIMMS from the motherboard
2. Using another computer download the latest Bios from our GIGABYTE website for your motherboard
3. Rename the Bios file GIGABYTE.BIN and put it on a clean flash drive with no other files on it.
4. Connect the flash drive into the White USB port on the back of the motherboard, and turn the computer on
5. Wait for the flashing lights to stop on both the USB drive and Motherboard LED
6. Turn off the system (May have to hold power button for 10 seconds)
7. Remove the flash drive.
8. Install only ONE RAM DIMM for now and turn the computer back on.
9. If all goes as designed now use the BIOS or boot to Windows.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the input guys.

Unfortunately I am waiting my case so I can complete the build and as my graphics card is blocked up I won't be trying to build the setup again before I complete the loop.

I don't have a white USB socket on my X99M Gaming 5 but I guess I'll just try to flash by conventional means.

Giga-Man, I think I would have to RMA the board with GB anyway as it's been over 30 days since I bought it. Can you please advise whether any BIOS fix for these issues maybe forthcoming? Is it a problem with the board itself or just compatibility issues?

Not the same board, but I'm pretty sure it's a compatiblity/bios issue.

I have the a completely different board x99-sli and get the exact same thing (black screen on bios) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18688953.

Luckily for me, I know exactly what causes it (one of my hdd), so while I wait for a bios update, I can just unplug that particular drive if I want to go to the bios.

Doesn't really help you, but just saying I don't think it's hardware as the same thing can happen across different boards and seems to be a bios/compatiblity issue. Gigabyte unfortunetly don't seem to be pushing many x99 bios updates.

You can detach all your boot drives then you go straight into Bios. I would do this until Gigabyte sort the issue.

We have built several systems using this board and when I have tested I have had no issue. Maybe try PS2 Keyboard??
