X99 Gigabyte Gaming 5P unable to go to bios

Just a quick bump.

Tried the f2b bios on my x99-sli. It works great, problem is solved. Can enter the bios no issue now, without unplugging my drive. Tried it multiple times just to make sure, got in fine each and every time. Also seems to load it up a bit quicker as well.

Only issue I had was the white port method never worked :(. It blinked, so it knew the drive was there, but it didn't start flashing. Just booted to windows. Noticed now that I did not have .bin in uppercase, dunno if that was the problem or if I was meant to unplug other stuff first (boot drive etc).

Anyway, no matter. Standard q-flash worked fine and all is well :).

Thanks for the fix :).

Do you have BIOS F2b or F2x (the newest one)?
You can get F2x from the link I provided here

I think maybe there is some confusion on naming going on.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5332#bios

The f2b one on the site now specifically lists

3. Improves hdd compatiblity.

And the date of release changed to 2015/09/23.

Before you listed the fixes here, the f2b only listed 16GB compatiblity and was a much earlier date.

I grabbed the one from the site that was listed as f2b with the hdd compatiblity and that fixed my issue with the bios.

So not sure what's going on with the naming or if they are actually the same thing or if it's a mistake on the gigabyte site.

But I couldn't get to the bios, till I grabbed the one named f2b on the site with "hdd compatiblity" and well, now I can. So if the f2b on the site doesn't include the fix (even though the notes say it does), then not sure why it sorted for me, but I suppose it does not matter.

Downloaded f2b. No impact when I load it, still looping every 4 seconds.

GIGA-man, your link to the f2x version has expired. Can you please repost?

Is there any further news in general?

Hello all,

All the new X99 BIOS on our website should have fixed these issues.. the link you had was only there for short term while the BIOS website was updated.. The latest BIOS for that board should be the F2f BIOS... If for some reason this new BIOS does not fix the problem let us know and we will get it fixed for you ASAP

Solved Bios Crashing - Got Computer Running Again

I have a large problem with the Gigabyte GA-X99 Gaming 5P board. It started with the a normal program running on windows 10. It was producing memory KMODE_EXEPTION_NOT_HANDLED errors. (BSOD) Rebooted then received MEMORY_MANAGMENT Error (BSOD). Rebooted again and used MEMTEST86 from USB drive to see if there was a memory problem. Started to go through the tests then giving the red errors for memory. The program stopped with a diagonal black check from top left to bottom right of screen. Could not use a PS/2 keyboard or mouse. Had to shut the computer down completely.
On reboot I received 2 Beeps from the motherboard and black screen. As I have found out this is a CMOS error. I have tried many ways as described. Taking the battery out, installed new battery, Bridging the CLS_CMOS Holding down power buttons to disperse residue power from the motherboard , changing memory around, and when I tried your instructions of taking out the memory and flashing through the white USB which the power went on - off, no flashing. The battery has been left out overnight and the CMOS bridged, still the motherboard gives the 2 beeps and goes off - on - off - on continuously until manually powered off. I had managed to flash twice (1 - to default bios ( but crashed when I said Yes) had 1 memory stick in.The 2nd time flashed, but power just stayed on, 1 memory stick in, black screen no information. (I did make sure flash had completed before turning off, Back of motherboard that lights up went dark flashed orange light, when finished back lights up again. Tried restart 2beeps again. The bios used was f2f. from Gigabyte website.

Update:
The following instructions were used during the setup of my GIGABYTE GA-X99 GAMING 5P MOTHERBOARD, to get the system working again.

1. Make sure the computer is off and power plug removed
2. Take out CMOS battery and use a screwdriver to bridge the CLS_CMOS pins. (Check manual to locate the CLS_CMOS pins on the motherboard)
3. Take out all the memory
4. Go to another computer and download (in my case f2f bios) from the Gigabyte Website
5. Unzip and rename the f2f file to GIGABYTE.BIN
6. Format Pen Drive to (Fat 32) and copy/paste GIGABYTE.BIN on to it.
7. Put back in the CMOS battery
8. Put the pen drive into the white USB (Bios) Socket
9. Plug in main power and switch on
10. THE COMPUTER WILL THEN SWITCH OFF & ON ABOUT 10 - 12 TIMES APPROX, THEN THE BIOS WILL START TO FLASH ORANGE FROM THE PEN DRIVE.
11. IMPORTANT!! DO NOT REMOVE THE PEN DRIVE.. UNTIL THE ORANGE LIGHT STOPS FLASHING AND A SOLID ORANGE LIGHT IS SHOWING.
12. Turn off the computer, pull out the power cable, remove the pen drive, then install 1 stick of memory. (MAKE SURE YOUR MEMORY STICK IS IN THE CORRECT SLOT (ON MY MOTHERBOARD IT IS THE 3rd SLOT (DDR4_3_1B)
13. Put back in the power cable and restart computer.
14. It should load up windows (if on your machine)
15. Restart computer and BIOS asks to keep default bios.
16. Pressing "yes" gave me a "BLINITIALIZELIBRARY FAILED 0xC000009a" Error. (Don't know what that means)
17. Manually Shut down computer
18. Go and download a program Memtest86 v 6.2.0 (Free Edition) http://www.memtest86.com/
19. Load This program on to pen-drive and inset into a USB slot
20. Turn on power to the computer an press F12 until the BOOT menu shows
21. Pick "UEFI pen drive name" from the BOOT Menu
21 This will automatically start the MemTest86 program (1st line Retrieving Hardware info...)
22. It then counts down on the MemTest86 splash screen. Don't change any settings, just let it continue.
23. It takes about 2hrs - 45mins to complete a 4 time pass with 4GB memory stick.
22. Leave the program to complete the process.
23. Press "y" and "y" until you reach Main Memtest86 Page/Menus. Select "EXIT"
24. Once completed turn off the power, remove power cable, allow the memory stick to COOL down before removing.
25. Replace with another memory stick in the same memory slot (As I know this slot works) - Go Back to 20. - until all your memory sticks have been checked.

Finished checking all 4 sticks of memory individually. No Errors or BIOS crashes. Going to install all 4 sticks now, and do a final check.

WHEN USING MORE THAN 1 STICK OF MEMORY MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION ORDER BEFORE INSTALLING. (Motherboard Manual Page 16 Channel Memory Configuration)

I hope this information will help anyone who has BIOS and memory problems like myself.

Thanks to GIGA-MAN for his post earlier. It helped me while doing my setup.

As you have seen by my previous post I checked all my memory individually and it all works. When I put in 2 memory strips still boots up and keyboard lights up press F12 normal boot screen comes up. Put in 4 memory strips in their correct order. No Boot no response from the keyboard. The computer goes on then shuts down on-off on-off. Changed around memory but still does not boot. Either Channel 1 or 5 is faulty which I don't think, as the computer would not boot at anytime. I'm going to have to just use 2 memory strips for the moment unless someone can suggest a solution. If this is a bios problem then it may explain why computers are not booting up. So if you cannot get bios to start try putting your memory strips into slot 3 and slot 7, but you will only have 8gb of memory. Better than no computer but I hope this will only be a temporary measure.

Tech support gave me a new bios (F2j) not on their website. Flashed, took out CMOS Battery, changed Memory around. It worked until I powered down. The following day Bios did not boot. Giving up on trying to use 4 strips.

Hello all,

Just to make you aware we have started to load new BIOS on our website to fix this issue.
Until all those new BIOS are live you can also use this link

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6WzjHBRvBLJSWU0VHc5S3BEMzQ&usp=sharing

your link does not work and I cant get into the bios just because I changed my PSU over to a new one, now I cant boot up or do anything

at least I and people know that they should NEVER buy a gigabyte board again, this black screen and unable to go to bios will always happen to me now if I ever reset cmos or install windows again!

Mate you need to read the post you are quoting more carefully. They said BIOS is on their website.

Plus it would help if you actually went through this thread you created and read it thoroughly like as you missed this.

You can detach all your boot drives then you go straight into Bios. I would do this until Gigabyte sort the issue.

We have built several systems using this board and when I have tested I have had no issue. Maybe try PS2 Keyboard??

ive been through the trouble shooting steps, doesnt work, the ONLY way I can get into the bios is when I have to disconnect all my mechanical hard drives and other bits ect

Its a pain but its a work around as my install is on a SSD, not sure why I even had to do this, and its not just me, this issue is a major X99 issue for ppl with mechanical HDs

Anyways my plan now is to get a Asus/MSI board and sell this off to someone else.
