xaser III mod

I might be inclined to put a window in the top, or perhaps a dual 120/140mm fan hole.

For the rear I would be looking at drilling out a 120mm fan hole in the middle of that dual 80mm slot. Either dremel or hole saw.

Quite like the purple UV idea.

I have done a bit more stripping on the case, i have now designed the side and top cuts and have turned to the front.
I have now stripped all the crap off the front and am now down to the square case. I was thinking about removing the front completely and replacing with a clear black/grey perspex.
1.Has this been done before??
2.Do you think it would work with the rest of the case being in blue/red/purple flip paint? (there will also be a perspex side window and top design)
3.How would the perspex light up with purple uv?
4.would there be spots that wouldnt light up due to the cd drive and stuff getting in the way?
5. would running strip lights down the edge of the perspex solve this??

Or i could do the fan mod on font for the main light and the perspex could just glow from the lights that i use to illuminate the side window, or should i just do fans and block any other light coming though

heres my design

I was thinking of relocating the hard disk housing, is there any reason why i shouldnt do this and was going to drop it down to spacing for 2 as i'll only have one untill i get a solid one to go with it

would it be possible to put this up top in the optical drive house and taking that down to 2 also, 1 for the fan controller and the dvd drive

small update on this, finally finished cutting the case up :D
And just rechecked the fan placements and I dont have enough room to fit 2x 120mm at the back of case, would i be able to use 80mm ones running faster, any recomendations??
just waiting for my paint to turn up before i can do any more

You might be able to fit a single 120mm fan there though. That'll be fine I'd imagine as most cases have just the one fan back there anyway.

If you wish to stick with 80mm then please remove those nasty restrictive grilles from the 80mm fan slots at the back and just have two silent/slow running 80mm fans running there, it'll be fine. No need to have faster moving fans really to compensate.

I'm liking the fancy cut outs you've made. What do you plan for the top slot? A fan? Fans? Tinted Acrylic? Opaque Acrylic? Radiator?

goning for dark tint perspex on the top, side and front :) Will hopefully be lighing it all up with uv's if they are bright enough

not sure about putting just one fan there as it wont remove all of the grills might be better going for two 80mm ones and cutting out the grills

base coat turned up, did a quick spray test. will rub it back down and prime it later. have a flip paint top coat to go on:D

what size hole do i need to cut out for the fans, i'm guesing the 120mm includes the casing as well, can i buy a hole cutter for it

114mm for 120mm fan holes. Can't remember the 80mm one but Google will help.

Holesaws are not cost effective though, maybe one of those adjustable arm cutters would be better, unless you plan several mods.

Not sure what you mean by several mods, I think i'm going to have to remove a larger section and then replace it again with something on the back and the front needs two holes cutting out of the perspex. I just thought that would give me the neatest hole

I used a 114dia.bi-metal hole-saw for mine, it was about £22 plus about £6 for the arbor at the time. If you`re only going to use it for one hole it`s a bit of a luxury item.

I`ve used mine on a few cases for triple radiators and things so it`s been well worth it.

If you do use one, clamp a piece of wood on the inside of the case as you`re drilling to keep the holesaw parallel to the case, and give yourself something to drill into.

The 120mm.fan only just fits on the back, but you shouldn`t have to take any more of the back panel away to get one in.

I`ve sold the case now, but if I`ve got any pictures of it at home I`ll post them in here later.

Found one I`d posted elsewhere, sorry it`s not a great pic. Should let you see the level the fan is at though. I had covered the remaining parts of the square mesh with Akasa foam so they weren`t visible.

I see what you mean now about the back panel, it might look a bit strange if it`s left as is, but with the bigger fan there.

I had a 120mm.fan in the front as well, to replace the existing 2x80`s but didn`t bother drilling out any of the front panel.

Hope this helps a bit anyway.:)
