XBone v PS4 sales

In the UK the last figures i seen was 350k ps4 and 250k xbox one. Possibly they could as i have seen Xbox in stock in a good few shops and literally no PS4's in stock.

According to MCV its 530K PS4 and 370K ish XB1, what surprised me most is that the PS4 has also outsold the 360 sales for this year in total in the UK. These are sold through to customer reported sales, its around a 44% difference between the PS4 and XB1.
Worldwide sold through is a bit over 3 million XB1s end of year and just over 4.2 Million PS4 upto 28 Dec, prob both around the same date this again is around 40% difference between the two.

It would tally with what I see around here, most shops have XBOne, but PS4 is sold out.
I'd say the price point is helping the PS4 here, ironic given the PS3 lost badly when it came out for the same reason as MS' XBOne is. There's also the fact there's really no killer title for either console right now...or even many good ones, and with the backwards compatibility lost, there's little incentive to upgrade until the games catch up, except for the people who MUST have one now.

Why would you compare PS4 sales to 360? Has PS4 not outsold PS3 also this year in the UK then?

The MCV article was just pointing out (not me) that the biggest selling console in the UK over the last few years was out sold this year by the PS4 in 5 weeks of sales.:)

I've spoken to quite a few that had a 360 or both ps3 and 360 the number that have either ditched both or sold their ps3 to fund a ps4 is surprisingly high. many I know have a ps4 or intend to buy one. I've only spoken to one I know who has purchased an xbone , and he has one friend that he says has purchased a xbone as well.

does seem to me the ps4 is vastly outselling ms in regards to those I know.. my psn friends lost has grown massively since ps4 was released.

agreed, article was pointing out how exceedingly well the ps4 had done against what has been year on year the best selling UK home console not hand held.

tbh, ps4 has sold so well I'm even shocked, the 360 was finally outsold by not ps3 but a ps4 during its first month on sale.. impressive, very impressive.

Fail to see how it's impressive but each to their own :)

Love how people get defensive about sales figures - regardless of what your 'mate' has its obvious to anyone that PS4 is massively outselling Xbone.

I think the whole PSN hack thing really shook Sony up and they have come back fighting where as MS just got fat and complacent waving its cheque book around.

If Microsoft officially and proudly announce that their console is selling miserably, that will scare any potential buyers (suckers) right away. It is in their business interests to make it look as good as possible.

But not in their interests to be 'found out'. You can't question Microsoft's sales statement without then questioning Sony's (which tend to come a week later).

I suspect both numbers are accurate. Xbox One has sold phenomenally well in the US and 3 million sales are a huge success regardless of Sony's numbers.

They got found out over Surface RT (lying to investors/shareholders), I don't think it's damaged them that much? most people probably don't even know that they're being sued.

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2288882/microsoft-sued-over-disastrous-surface-sales

"Defendants issued materially false and misleading statements regarding the Company's financial performance and its tablet computer, the Surface RT," the complaint said.

"The Company's Surface RT product was experiencing poor customer demand and lackluster sales... Surface RT inventory experienced a material decline in value during the quarter ended March 31, 2013... financial statements for the quarter ended March 31, 2013 were materially false and misleading and violated Generally Accepted Accounting."

Microsoft is also accused of lacking "a reasonable basis for their positive statements about [the] Surface RT".

I suspect the Xbox has had much stronger sales in the US where more of the features are available/relevant compared to the UK.

Perhaps PS4 sales are based on units shipments and Xbox One on actual sales.

They are both units sold to consumers world wide. PS4 4.2m+ units, Xbox One 3m+ units.

Both have gotten off to a great start. Sony seems to be like the Wii launch where they are always out of stock/in short supply, where as the Xbox One is for the most part easy to get a hold of.

It would be interesting to see the USA figures. If the XBone was beaten there it would show some early signs of problems for the XBone.

If the PS4 was release in the same countries as the XBone I suspect it would still have sold more due to how strong the demand is and lack of stock. Sadly neither will ever give a breakdown of sales per country.

I think the XBone will need to get a price drop earlier than they had hoped.

But XO has so many countries to release in, Im sure theyll sell more whenever they decide to go beyond its launch countries. I guess they just havent produced enough to do that yet...

Price drop before they launch worldwide? I dont see that happening...

ps3ud0

Indeed, it's pretty straight forward and we have the officially numbers so only the most desperate of fanboys would start a thread suggesting they are "made up" as they don't coincide with their particular view.

Sony PlayStation is the incumbent best selling console globally by quite some margin and has been with every generation including the last. They have also reached 48 countries quite quickly whilst Xbox is restricted to 13.

That PS4 is outselling Xbox One isn't a surprise and I don't think anyone ever thought it would be any different. Of much more interest will be the sales figures after 12-18months. In the mean time I suspect both consoles are selling broadly within expectations.

Is funny how people get so defensive over console brands....I've always been a PlayStation fan, as I grew up with the PS1 and PS2 and so will always choose that over Xbox.......but having both do well is important.

Look at Intel and AMD......AMD is such a little threat to Intel on the CPU side that they just charge silly amount for 5%-10% increases per clock cycle on each new generation....you don't want that same scenario on the console market.

although in terms of worldwide figures.....once PS4 goes on sale in Japan on Feb 22nd I'd expect the gap to get massively bigger.

Well, I know 3 people with a PS4 and 1 with an XBone.

For me I don't care which sells better, I have no space for a kinect which was the main kicker for me when it was released, so I bought the smaller, sleeker and cheaper PS4.
